"Manganese (Mn) deficiency is more common than most growers realize, but, fortunately, the symptoms are very distinctive and easy to recognize.Symptoms appear at the top of the plant and all growing shoots. Older leaves seldom show any signs.Symptoms begin as chlorosis or a bleached blotching of tissue starting at the base of the leaf where blades join. As the condition progresses, the interveinal tissue turns pale green to yellow or white, but the veins remain dark green. Veins may be pale green. The telltale sign for Mn, as distinguished from Fe or Zn deficiency, is that the MARGINS (edges) of the affected leaves remain dark green, so that each affected leaf is outlined with dark green, but all inner tissue between the veins turns yellow or white. The leaf is chlorotic, but outlined by a perimeter or ring of green tissue along the margins. In mild or incipient cases, a "halo or yellow shadowline"outlines the leaves within a perimeter of dark green on the leaf's margins. Shoots or young leaves may sometimes show yellow or dead spots witout the distinctive rim of green." Mn deficiencies most often occur when hard or alkaline water prohibits the uptake of Mn, and other trace minerals like Fe and Zn. Make sure the ph of your water is about 6.5 to insure the uptake of these micro nutrients. If diagnosis is a Mn deficiency, it is important to correct immediately and provide Mn throughout the flowering stage. A Mn deficiency will seriously affect good flower formation. Maturation is delayed, and flower formation is seriously slowed and inhibited. Having only been able to see the plant in pictures, this is just an educated guess as to your problem, but the pics indicate the Mn deficiency. There are mineral supplements available at your local nursery. I hope you get your problem sorted out....chunk Last edited by chunkdaddyo; 03-30-2009 at 12:45 AM. | |
