Hydro Ph blues

this is my 2nd DWC grow on CFL. my seedlings are three weeks old and the oldest leaves are yellowing and dying due to what i believe is Ph burn. i've been using 1/4 tsp nutes per measured gallon of water which is under manf suggestion just to be sure thats not the problem. when i flush the water i adjust the ph of the 7.8ph tap water down to 6.8 after nutes are added using an aquarium ph down...BUT the next day i check and its back to 7.8 repeatedly, is this because of the aquarium agent, should i use a mineral instead? all help is appreciated.

I am having the same problem and it driving me nuts. Iam now trying to leave the water in an other holding tank for 2 to 3 days untill the ph stabizes. And i am lowering the ph more to get the range i want. still testing diffrent things but if i find out anything that works better i will post it. i hope someone else has come up with a better anwser. good luck with it.

If it fluctuates up than lower it to a pH of 5.0 to get the desired 5.5 for hydro.

Re: Hydro Ph blues

i am having the same problem. i have been trying to lower my ph with vinegar but it keeps going up again to 7.2. tomorrow i am going to try and change the water out and use my well water instead of the tap water. my well is in a pine forest and has a ph of 6 to 6.5. i hope this will do the trick . my plants are only 13 days old and they are already getting brown edges.

Vinegar should not be used in hydro only for soil.

Re: Hydro Ph blues

^ Household items suck in my experience for controlling pH, especially in hydroponics. Lemon juice or vinegar smells and does not control the pH well at all. Baking soda is extremely salty.

The aquarium shop should have very inexpensive bottles of pH up and down for tiny little fishbowls. The stuff at the hydro shop is for plants though and should work better, even though it's more expensive.

If you cannot afford pH up and down, you should take a step back from growing hydroponically for a minute. Try soil and organics. Water the plant with carbon filtered water and you don't have to worry about pH as much if at all.

I completely agree with everything Mr.G says.
If you have the money get some liquid pH up or down from an online hydro store. GH Makes great products.

Yes that can cause pH fluctuations. Not sure what to do. Just soak them in pH water longer.

yes I do the powder works great in soil but doesn't hold shit for hydro. Use liquid for hydro.

Well if it is way off the nutes won't be taken up fully anyway. Might be better to save them until it comes. When is Easter?
