yellow bottom leaves - crispy brown second set - otherwise fine

What type of medium? Soil
What brand and type of soil? FFOF
Indoors or outdoors? Indoor
What strain? Bagseed
How old are the plants? 3 weeks
What type of lights and how many watts? 210w CFL [4 plants]
How far from the lights? 4-5"
What, how much and when was it fed? None yet
What is the medium/runoff pH? 6.7
What are the temps and humidity in the room? 74L/82H 35%
What size pots? 3/4 Gal.
Any bugs? Look real close. Nope

ok folks i need some advice. 2 days ago i noticed the bottom single set of leaves were yellowing on both sides, and the next set up [3 leaves] had the claw and were slightly dry to the touch. about 12 hours later i noticed them getting worse and a little crispy.

yesterday the 3-set started to develop brown near the tips and were drying even more and one of the leaves has a black spot on it, visible from the top and bottom. the bottom single set is still soft to the touch, but yellow. the rest of the plant is fine. soft leaves and no problems.

i was gone all day today and when i came home i noticed it is getting worse and worse. so far its only affecting the leaves i mentioned above. i really want to get this sorted out because im about to transplant them into larger pots. i want to get this out of the way first

any ideas? i think its time to start adding nutes, but i wanted to make sure it wasnt another problem first. i bought a NPK test kit but it was garbage, so i took it back. it was the only one they had

Looks like you have everything under control, might just need repotting.

3/4 of a US gallon? that's a little over 2.4 liters..

Re: yellow bottom leaves - crispy brown second set - otherwise fine

i dont think the pots are the issue, they arent root bound at all. only 3 weeks old too. i usually keep them in these pots till they show sex, then transplant to larger pots and put them in my cabinet for 12/12. never had problems in the past doing it this way

it looks like nute burn but i havnt given it any. i think it has to be a nute deficiency, but i dont know what to do about it. ive ordered the foxfarm 3 pack, but it wont be here till the end of the week, and this thing is getting worse everyday.

more pics

as you can see the bottom leaves are now curled up, but they are still somewhat soft. i can unfold them without crunching

the 3-sets are crispy, and if i try to unfold them i feel like it would definitely break the end of the leaf off.

so far luckily the rest of the plant isnt affected, but im worried it will gradually spread.

i have the same problem from thai bagweeg some of my plants are growing out of it now and the discolouration has stayed reletivly to the bottom 4 leaves now they are nearly 2 foot and lookin reall healthy just keep doin what your doin coz you could do the wrong thing and kill ur plant if the leaves get really bad yellow brown and crispy all over cut it off it wont do damage if its not ragged off that has seemed to have contained mine from more yellow/brown crispy leaves

I lol'd.

Well I'm on my first grow so I can't offer much advice... What is the growroom/box setup like? Are you growing it in a closet or what? Is it possible that the lower sets of leaves just weren't getting enough light? Or did you possibly get water on some of the leaves, causing them to burn?

I think for 3 weeks it looks good (compared to mine), and the same thing happened to a few of my leaves. Do you have any additives in the water, like molasses or anything? I just picked up some SUPERThrive yesterday, maybe you should try that? You're right about it being time for nutes though, 3 weeks seems to be what most around here agree on.

Re: yellow bottom leaves - crispy brown second set - otherwise fine

its really not that much of a problem

its happened to me before, you can clear it up if you catch it early, but even if you have to lose a couple leaves its really no harm. your growth tips are all healthy, and thats what matters most.

your plant looks hungry. not any specific nutrient, probably a combination of most. as soon as you start adding your FF veg nutes, itll stop. dont sweat the postal system, youve easily got a few more days before it starts consuming a substantial amount of its stored resources

Re: yellow bottom leaves - crispy brown second set - otherwise fine

My girls pretty much have the exact same problem. I'm troubleshooting and determining what the problem is. I think maybe I was underwatering b/c I never watered until I had water run-off from the bottom of the growing medium. So we'll see, Ill be watching this thread.

Here are some pics of them:

Re: yellow bottom leaves - crispy brown second set - otherwise fine

To me, what it looks like is a phosphorous and nitrogen deficiency. Since you've not been feeding it, those two issues would explain the yellowing and spotting. What are you waiting for....feed that bad boy!!!

Re: yellow bottom leaves - crispy brown second set - otherwise fine

I agree, looks like a nute def, though that FF soil should be feeding them OK up to now. When you get the liquid ferts start 'em right away but at 1/4 strength.

Problems with the bottom of the plant are (almost) always better than problems with the top. Could also be that the lower levels are getting shaded and less light penetration, in which case this is to be expected.
