New Plants - Stem colors and droopy leaves

Ok well I have 3 new plants that I got from a couple decent bags I bought that would have like 1-2 random seeds or w/e and planted them. Im using CFL's, only 2 100 watts right now, but I have more Im going to use soon when I replant them.

Anyawys, the plants dont look too bad - One has a few droopy leaves though. its the front one in this picture:

Does it look ok or is it something I need to fix?

Also, 2 of the plants have white stems and one has a purple-ish stem; Is this just their genetics?

Here is a couple pictures of them:

Re: New Plants - Stem colors and droopy leaves

the stems look kind of weak and stretched but that should correct itself in the coming weeks, as long as the lights arent too far away (for CFL's i'd say as close as possible w/o touching them), as the purple stems, that could be due from the strains genetics or from cooler temps. whats your temps at?

Its usually around 70 degrees or so sometimes a little warmer. I think it is the genetics because one of the seeds I got was from some purple weed

yep, 70-78 F is optimal, although some people may say higher, but from my results 70-78 is the best. what kind of medium are you using? if you are using MG or a home made mixture, i would reccommend using Fox Farms Ocean Forest, most people swear by it and is already perfectly balanced (perlite, guano, peat moss, etc), and is also pH buffered. its perfect for newbs and experienced growers.

htgsupply.com has it, but your local hydro/grow shop should have it, and im sure ebay and a few other sites have it as well. you can go to fox farms website and search for a dealer in your zip code. i got it from my local hydro store for $16 for a bag that fills about five 3 gallon buckets.

Re: New Plants - Stem colors and droopy leaves

Ya I think the lights are at a good height now and I will get some of that soil for when I replant them into the big pots. Also, do you think LST would be a good idea? I read a few articles on it and it sounds good ... I was thinking about doing it but this was only my 2nd grow .... but hey you gotta learn sometime right? also, I dont really understand topping and fimming ... I read an article about topping and fimming, but the only thing I learned was how to top. I didnt see how to fim, and I definitely didnt learn why topping and fimming are good...so any thoughts here would rock :-)

Well, Dude, you have some incredible, stretching going on. Tells me, it's time for a re-pot 7-10 gallon bags are appropriate. Now, the lights can, be moved a touch closer, ( place hand in front of top foliage, keep moving the light(s) closer, until your hand becomes, to hot. No good, raise the lamp, until it does not, burn, or to hot on your hand )Also, it appears, it needs, more water, with a touch of LOW nutrients. I mean low as 1 /10 ratio. You should be fine then. The stem color, is fine, in this tender age.

Ive been waiting to repot them until I got some better soil :-\ And I have like 3 gallon pots is the biggest, with about a 10 inch diameter on top. Does that mean I am going to need bigger ones? 7-10 gallons sounds huge for my little indoor grow? o_0 And I will try to catch up on watering ... I was gone for 3 days and couldnt water them so I watered right when I got back, but am trying to make sure not to over water o_0

Re: New Plants - Stem colors and droopy leaves

So, they are droopy, due mainly, to lack of water. If you stick with 3.5 gallon pots, your roots, will, become " root bound ", and that means, no more foliage will grow as well. If you follow, those simple things I spelled out, you, should be fine. You also, can buy " grow Bags " for, 25 cents, each, at your grow shop. Do it right now, and you won't be making soup, down the road. You will be smoking nice, fat, buds!

Well, I grow White Widow, and that strain, is not good, for topping. Others, ask around, as well, with, LST ect.
