baby seed root issue?

working on an aerogardn lowryder#2 setup. basically i put the seed in a ziplock with paper towels, let it sit on top of my furnace for a day or two, checked it, it had opened up and looked like it was about to get a root any day now. i wasn't confident in my furnaces ability to keep it warm (we keep heat low these days) so i figured no harm in just putting it in the AG now. i did that, it's been about a week or so and it had a very thin root coming out of it. it's been on a 20/4 cycle since i put it in, i havent noticed the little root getting any bigger so i opened up the pod and i was surprised to see it wasnt attached to the seed, and the seed looked like it was getting bigger and more open, but the root looked completely disconnected. it doesnt look hurt or anything crazy, but i'm wondering where i went wrong and what i should do next? cheers. and i havent added any nutes, just ph adjusted water.

The best way to germinate is in the pot, if you can't do that then it's in a glass of water for a day, till they split then into the pot.

The ziplock might have starved your seedling of oxygen thats prob why it died.

But then I could be wrong.
