Rockwool cube almost dried

Hello,

Third time grower here, first time hydro. I germinated my skunk special seeds in a glass of bottled water and they all looked good when I stuck them about a quarter of an inch deep into some one inch square rockwool cubes. They are sitting with a 58 watt cfl hovering a foot over them. I was surprised to find the cubes almost dried out after I got home from my work. I don't think they completely dried out, but pretty close. I immediately sprayed all cubes with fresh water and enclosed them inside a grow tent, to keep them from drying out so fast.

Questions....Should they be okay from them coming so close to drying out? Also, should I keep them enclosed for now? and if so for how long?

Also, I was just going to transfer them into larger rockwool cubes next week and set them into my grow tray, manually watering them. I recently read that the roots should not be exposed to light, so I am thinking of putting some clay pellets around them in the tray. Is this a good plan? or any alternatives would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did ya pre soak the RW in 5.5pH water?

The RW with seeds wont need light till they sprout, light will dry them too.

Warm and damp, never let them dry or get too soaking wet either.

A 16w. CFL is fine for the first week at 2-4" and the big CFL is fine at 2"tall 2-4" away too.

Wrap all the RW cubes in plastic wrap or in a tupperware till sprouted and warm not hot then when they pop get um out and add light.

I then put the cubes on a bed of perlite which is very damp so if nee be the RW can wick up moisture if needed.

Once rooted let the RW dry till light but right as they get light dip them in water with superthrive to dampen them till you see white roots, keep the roots covered with the perlite so light wont see them too.

Re: Rockwool cube almost dried

Yes, I soaked the rockwool in ph correct bottled water for 24 hours before placing seeds in them.

I wasn't too clear in my original post, but the seeds have already germinated, therefore I placed them under some light. Just waiting for them to sprout in a few days. Temps are 70-78 degrees, humidity is around 50 so the environment is good. I have a 58 watt cfl about a foot above them.

I'll have to purchase some Superthrive. As far as transplanting to larger cubes, should I toss them into clay pebbles in my grow tray?

HT will help keep them from drying as fast and protect the roots from the light.

Re: Rockwool cube almost dried

Thanks, that is what I will do when I get to that point. But right now, I'm waiting for them to sprout up through the top of the rw cube. It's a few days after that I'll get my larger grow tray, pump, hydroton etc. to get up and running.
