I smell Mold for the first time....

Just a question regarding clones. 6 days ago I cut and cloned 55 cuts ( bottom up ) and yesterday when I lifted up the dome lid I received a nice mold smell. It was only 3 inches from my nose but ever so present. I have never encountered this before.Any tips to save them....55 is a number I can't lose. If I need to snip again, my ladies are in 12/12 and there is a lot of pistils sticking out.

Any help will be great!

PS: they are in peat pellets

Domes can be your friend or foe.

Its super easy to overdo the humidity with clones and get damping off and mold at the bases.

My SOP is to have the dome on and closed for the first 3-4 days after clone. For the next 3-4 days after that I prop the domes up about a 1/8", using chopsticks. By the beginning of the second week I have completely removed the dome and just give them a few daily foliar sprays of water.

My advice would be to get some increased ventilation to the clones and see what happens.

The problem with the vents is that they are at the top of the dome .... and you need to get some air to the bottom of the plants. I used to loose a few clones to mold/funk, until I learned the chopstick trick.

I'm sure there are other items you could use .... but we eat a lot of Japanese and Thai, so there are always tons of chopsticks around the house.

I am sure pencils would work as well, from the looks of it.

The idea is that you still are holding in moisture at the canopy level but are allowing just a small bit of air flow at the soil/plug level.

Re: I smell Mold for the first time....

Well, 2 days now ( almost ) and the mold smell is gone, so is 6 clones that were the "funky" funk of the lot. I can handle that.

Re: I smell Mold for the first time....

I am convinced that the added air in the dome ( hence the chopstick Trick ) was the cure for my back!

............Thanks............
