Unhappy question on clones...

Hey everybody! This is actually my first post on this site, so first I gotta give lots of respect to everyone who regularly posts their experiences and shares their knowledge. There is so much good info here for everybody to put to use!

I've done about ten grows now, and I grew a strain I really like. Until now, I have only seeded my plants, but I decided to clone these guys because I really liked the smoke. I tried not to flower the mother plants by separating them from the others during flowering, but the went into autobloom anyway so I put them back in with the other guys and let them bloom. I put them both back into veg (lights and nutes) for about the last month and they are growing good..

So, I read up on the site here to try my hand at cloning. I took the growing shoots, cut them 45deg with a sterilized razor. Trimmed all but top two or so sets of leaves, Let em soak in liquid root sol. for about ten, then planted them into 1q pots with soil/perlite/sphagnum mix. watered to settle plants and soil with diluted root sol. Then I misted the plants and have misted them twice since planting last night...

Room conditions: 3 25w

Homemade humidity box (36"wX16"hx20"d) wood frame with clear plastic dropcloth skin around it

They are in my grow room in a cabinet that stays 76deg f pretty consistent and the humid box keeps around 92% humidity

Not very long after I planted them (2h or so) they were REALLY droopy... they look so sad. Now, the leaves all still look ok, but not great. They arent shriveling, but they are like I said, droopy to the point of almost facing straight down.

Like I said, Im pretty comfortable with the rest of the process, but I've never cloned before and my babies look like they're crying!

Is this normal for the first little while or did I go wrong somewhere?

I know somebody on this site will know the answer, so thanks in advance for the guidance!

If ya help me save em Ill send you a doobie snack when they grow up...

Re: question on clones...

it's not uncommon to notice wilting in the first 24hrs, just keep the in high humidity and they will bounce back....heard leaving them for the first 6to12hrs of no light will decrease wilting...

Re: question on clones...

Ok, I'm not the type to worry but man they look down. I'll let them keep pluggin away and hope they start goin north...

Ill have to try the dark start next time, see if it makes a diff. I also dont think Im gonna use soil next time... seems like most of the guys on here recommend just starting em in rockwool or straight perlite, some type of soilless mix. Thanks for the help!

Re: question on clones...

Oh, forgot to ask, how long does it typically take before they perk up a bit?

Thanks again!

Re: question on clones...

I had my first experience w/ clone this year too like you i grow from seed. Anyway it took mine like 3 or 4 days to bounce back. It depends a lot on the quality of your cut if i would have had a better cut i bet mine would have bounced back in a day or 2 there are a lot of vids on the forum and practice makes better

Re: question on clones...

cloning is easy...

get some growdan cubes...and some rooting hormone (i use powder)

make your cuts at 45 degree angle...drop them into a bowl of water.
(i think that it is important to get them directly into water so that they dont face increased stress...they were just cut from their lifeline)

with the tip underwater...do your clean up..i mainly focus on nodes...not leaves.

make sure your hole is adequate (pre soaked cube in water).

drop some rooting power down the hole..and coat the tip of the clipping with hormone...

gently place it in its new home...take a tool and make sure that it is secure...

once you have repeated as desired..

put your ladies under in a tray and put a humidity dome on them...(it is best to just buy some from your local garden supply store)

spray your cuttings a few times a day...and spray the dome when the condensation dissipates.

Cool Re: question on clones...

OK, little update for everyone...
Been a couple days now, and I have kept up with misting and making sure the soil stays moist(havent had to water other than misting yet)

About 12-15 of the 20 seem to be starting to head north a little and are looking happier. Not so wilted and the stems and leaves are becoming more turgid.

Im leaving the other 5-7 questionable ones in for now just in case they decide to kick it into gear. Its only been three days so I figure there is still time for them to revive themselves a bit.

I think the ones that are starting to pump up are gonna be ok, at least a good number of them should be. I just got worried seeing them so wilted... Every plant I've grown from seed that ever looked like that bit the dust eventually. Been doing a bit more reading and it seems like most of the clones wilt pretty bad for the first day or two.

Thanks a bunch guys!

BTW my mother plants are goin nuts after their new haircuts... holy shit!
