Help! pH Adjustment & Yellowing Leaves

Hey GC,

It came to my attention that my pH might have been too high (leaves were curling up some) so I got a pH test kit and sure enough, my tap water was in the 7ish level. The only problem is, now the tips of some of my leaves are yellowing! Help!

These are my babies.

Here's my pH test.. I'm aiming for low sixes, right?

This one seems more affected than the other.

The other one.

If I'm not messing up my pH, the only thing I can think of would be the lower pH giving access to more nutes and burning them because I'm using Miracle Grow, but it's the Seed Starting stuff so that seems unlikely... this is the nute info.

I just got my Fox Farm nute triple pack today, and I wanna get started on it, but help me fix this first! Thanks!

Re: Help! pH Adjustment & Yellowing Leaves

I'd repot that first off. You'd be surprised how a small plant has a big root system and that looks like an awfully small pot.

How often have you been feeding it? Honestly, i'd repot it, make sure you have some dolomite lime or similar soil buffer to keep your ph at 6.5. Get started on those new nutes when you transplant.

Those issues look a little bit like a nitrogen and potassium deficiency, could be because it's getting root bound, not enough oxygen in that small pot.

That's just my opinion though, knowing GC you'll get 10 different ones

Looks like nute burn bro. Give them a nice flush with some PH'd water and check the runoff

ph. http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=11688 sick plants guide. MG soil is known for

burning plants and stunting growth but it can be used properly and some people here swear

by it. Be careful using anything MG related.

Cool. I already purchased 10" pots and I'm transplanting this week. It's a 4" pot now.

I planned on transplanting it into Fox Farm Ocean Forest. So I should start on the nutes immediately after transplant even though FFOF is so rich? 1/4 strength at first right? Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the link. I know of all the horror stories about MG, but I figured I'd get away with this stuff since it's so weak (Seed Starting). Nutes are .05-%.01-%.05% in the bag and I haven't fed it anything else.

Re: Help! pH Adjustment & Yellowing Leaves

Any ideas now that they seem SO much worse? Should I flush with tap water since that's what I was using before I tried to pH balance? Won't be able to repot till tomorrow.

Go out and buy some distilled water, ph balence if needed and flush them. That might be

your best bet. Your tap water could be part of the problem. For example, my tap water comes

out at 7.5 350-400ppm I can't ph adjust it in a safe range without raising the ppm to a toxic

level.

I had the same problems before I got a RO/DI.

Awesome, thanks for the quick response. I'll go out to the grocery store in a bit and pick up a few gallons. You flush like 3x the container size right?

Think they'll live? One is obviously not as upset as the other.

Re: Help! pH Adjustment & Yellowing Leaves

Fushed the pots 3x their volume of pH balanced distilled water. I guess only time will tell. I'll post more pics when there is change.
