am i just being impatient or have i failed?

I'm relatively new to forums and completely new to growing so please go easy on me!

i was blessed with the fortune of finding a seed in what was without exaggeration the best haze i ever stumpled upon. and i'm young and have only been smokin for about 2 years and i know i will be for the rest of my life and will eventually begin to grow so i decided to get some practice now. i germinated the seed according to the info i found on this site:

http://www.weedsthatplease.com/germinating.htm

and planted my seed in a cup filled with some "premium seed starting jiffy mix" that i found at my local walmart, and using my desk lamp as a lightsource. of course i didn't plan to grow a legtimiate plant with that i eventually planned to start a high end grow operation in my girlfriend's house had the germination been successful. its sunday today and i planted it friday and i see one microscopic stalk coming out of the dirt and curling, which doesn't seem like a good sign. i see the pictures of the growing process on the site i showed and have done mroe research on growing and have realized that it grows relatively quickly. MUCH more quickly than the speed of which my plant is growing, if at all. can anyone tell me what i've done wrong (besides everything), and if there's any way to save it if it has already failed? i would take a picture but the sprout is so incredibly small that my camera couldn't capture it. please save my baby!!

also, i've been looking through many of the threads on this site trying to find a solution (if there is anything wrong at all) and realized (or assumed) that the "stalk" i mentioned is actually the tap root and i was making it point upward out of the soil all weekend. once i realized (or mistook) this i carefull flipped the seed over (and dropped it >.<) could this curling mean that my lamp burned the tap root?

well its certainly better than leaving the roots pointing up lol!!!

as to whether you've done any permanent damage i couldnt say, but yes you are a little impatient. Seeds (from what i have read) can take anywhere from hours to days for the taproot to develop. I germ'd mine for 2-3 days (i let the taproot grow a few mm before i potted it)

what type of light os your "desk-lamp"?

now its planted the right way up just be patient with it, dont fiddle with it too much and let it do its thing, MJ is a vigorous weed and can put up with a good amount of abuse (although the less abuse the better obviously)

good luck with it mate.

thanks for the advice mate

and the desk lamp is a 50 watt non-flourescant light.

a friend of mine knows a bit about cultivation and is willing to help me out with the expenses of the equipment if i let him in on the bud. he says the light i should get is like 200 dollars. any suggestions for what kinda light i should get?

Re: am i just being impatient or have i failed?

for a start up i wouldnt spend that amount until you know your gonna be doing it full time.

there are different opinions on light, alot of people will tell you that without HID lighting units your wasting your time, but if you look around you can find examples of people having success with either flouro's or cfl's

compact flouro's (cfl) are a good start due to their ease of use and cheap cost. they will fit into a regular light fitting and with enough of them used properly you will have some good results. Stay away from halogen, i have no idea of their light spectrums but they kick out a hell of a lot of heat, it will make the temps unbearable for the plant.

Have a look in the grow room setup forum, there is ALOT of useful info in there on lighting and setups..
