help my curling seedlings!

Here are pictures of my three plants that are about a week old. They have been under cfl lighting and were potted in MG soil (i have better soil waiting for transplant). Heat in the growing area has been a little bit of a problem (80-90 F), but it has had little effect. In the past two days, the seedlings have started to curl downwards back towards the stems in two of the three plants. The plants look very healthy as far as color... the camera makes them look yellow.

If anyone can help me, please answer a couple of questions

1. what is causing my leaves to curl
2. how can i fix it
3. when should i transplant my girlies

PICS

first two - plant 1
second two - plant 2
third two - plant 3

Re: help my curling seedlings!

Are you adjusting the PH of the water you use? The soil looks dry to me, that could be the problem also. Other thanh possibly under watering and maybe a slight PH problem, they look fine.

Re: help my curling seedlings!

the water ive been using is distilled water from target i believe... i assumed that distilled water would have a neutral ph - am i wrong to assume so? also, i havent watered the plants for two days so i could try and rule out overwatering

Re: help my curling seedlings!

Don't be fooled by bottled or distilled water, more often than not it runs high, 7.5-8.0 range. Might want to get a test kit and check it, save you problems as the grow progresses. I definately do not see this as an over watering problem, if anything they need water. This is not a bad thing, most of the time we have to wanr about over watering.

dude is right, look very dried out to me. Root lock i think caused by inncorrect pH. You should aim to have a pH level of around 5.5 or 6 so the plant can take in all of those much need nutrients

Water Re: help my curling seedlings!

4 inches seems a bit too close, i use a 600watt light and always keep it at least 1.5 feet away. Try moving light a bit higher

He's using CFL's, so 4 inches is fine, I have kept them as close as 2 inches using CFL's. By the How Pow, you have some nice looking Bluecheese going.

I disagree. To me those leaves show classic signs of having rather wet feet.

Let's see if we can't find out either way then...

First things first; do you have plenty of drainage holes in the bottom of those cups?

How much water have you been giving them, and how often?

How do you decide when to water?

Re: help my curling seedlings!

yes. there are many drainage holes in the cups. i have been watering every two to three days when the soil feels dry and the cups feel light. i water just until a little runs out the drainage holes

That sounds very reasonable depending on quantities.

Very good.

Now, if you watered from a cup the same as your growcups, how much water do you usually have to add before you see run-off? Half a cup? A quarter?

Re: help my curling seedlings!

Distilled water is bad.... Normally.. In a home environment tap water is best, i know that distilling tap water caused calcium and magnesium defficency... learned the hard way... also you should make sure you're plants havent out grown the container
