Plant problems!!!!

I am having a problem I have not seen before, all of the lower branches on plants are dying off, the foliage turns straight to brown /black like they behave when they very low light conditions and then the stems become soft turning from green to brown and then dry up,could it be caused by an extreme lack of light under a very thick lush green canopy? The top 4 to 6 feet is very healthy and lush no signs of burn of nutrient defs all are very healthy its just the lower 4 to 5 feet that seems to be dying off. Air movement is perfect light is at 53watts per sq ft plants are allowed to dry between waterings. water run off from the bottom of the pots is 6.6 ph and .9to 1.0 ec room temp runs 78 to 87 degrees all the time, noticed I was dealing with dying branches not leaves, they were performing very well and then out of nowhere things got wierd? Could it be a K205 transport issue due to there monsterous size the stalks are taking all K205 straight to the top?
Any input is greatly appriciated
