A Horror Story with Pictures

Hello all,
I'm a new grower going thru a hell of a lot of problems.

I have a grow chamber with:
250MH -- 24/0 on. Humidity between 50-65%. Temp between 75-83.
I'm growing in Soil (Black Gold).
Using Distilled water (which is a little low in ph so I raise it to about 6.6-7.0.)
Please take a look at the attached photos. (seed type - bagseed from kind nugs)

#1 & 1b picture --started outside in June, and brought inside in late June. It is very small plant ( it never really grew) notice the yellow leaves!

#1a picture is the same plant, I know the photo is bad, but what I want you to notice all the leaves had turned yellow and died!

I flushed plants with 6.7-7.0 water and have added Cal-mag (5ml) and liquid karma (5ml) ,about 7 days ago, but have not seen an improvment.

#2 was started indoors and the leaves look weird! also the lower leaves are yellow, (Using the same nuits as above)

#3 last but not least is a seedling looks like the same thing is happening to this plant also.

Can someone please help this horror story have a good ending!

Max

Stay within the pH range of 6.5-6.8 and have you tried adding ferts with Nitrogen to your plants?

Nutrient

I've added 5ml of Pure Blend Pro Gro (3-1.5-4) as well as 5ml liquid karma (.1-.1-.5) as well as cal-mag (2-0-0).

Let me ask you this, if my water has a ph of 6.5-6.8 then I add my Nutrients. Should I retest the ph? I did yesterday, just for shits and giggles and found out that the ph dropped to around 4-5. Should I bring the ph back up or leave it alone, because thats what the Nutrients do to the ph?
Thanks for your response!

Miracle Gro

OK, so after my last post I realized my N might be too low so I went to the store and got some Miracle Gro All Purpose Plant Food (24-8-16).

Before I mix it with my ph adjusted water, I looked at GC forums and also realized the GC community kinda looks down on Miracle Gro, so should I add this shit or what?

If not, how do I supplement more N?

You should test PH after adding nutes. If the PH is as low as you say it is that could be playing a major role in your probs. Low PH can cause nute lockout so it wont matter how much N you add cos the roots will be unable to take it up. Sort your PH out and I'm sure you will see an improvement.

As for the miricle grow nutes I've never used 'em but you should be ok to start off with a 1/4 dose. Try to sort your PH first though or you'll be wasting your time.

Good luck man

Miracle gro will work great for vegging, but for flowering youll deffinately need something different, and like blobbio said, start at no more than 1/4 strength.

Re: A Horror Story with Pictures

Thanks for the info.
I just checked my ph in my water after adding nuits, I had to raise it up again, it's now at 6.8. (I'm not going to water again for a few days, lets see how yesterdays watering does)

I'm not going to start over cause I'm just starting out at this. Let me get most of my mistakes out now!

I'm germinating a few more seeds and hope to get a journal going, so that the group can track my progress and help me out.

I understand the soil I'm using (Black Gold) has a tendancy to give inaccurate ph readings, is this because of the peat? Should I change my soil? If so, what do you recomend?

Re: A Horror Story with Pictures

I'm on my first grow too. I ended up having to change my soil. I thought I'd got a pretty safe all purpose soil, turned out to have slow release nutes and my plants started to go yellow and burn. Anyway, I switched my plants to pure, organic soil which gives me absolute control over the nutes that are added.

I'm vegging my plants still, they're nearly two weeks old, in organic soil and I've just started adding 20.10.10 - They're thriving!!

Organic soil is the way to go imho.

Fox Farm Ocean something gets props on these pages. I've never used it cos i'm in UK and I can't easily get it here. I use Bio-Bizz All Mix which is not too expensive and certified organic, but I'm not sure how easy it is to get hold of over there. Is your soil pre-fertilised? Slow release nutes spell death for MJ plants as a general rule.

Re: A Horror Story with Pictures

Just because you pH adjust your water before you water the plants doesn't mean they are in properly adjusted soil, I have ran two gallons of about 7.5 pH water through a 1 gallon pot before and my run off was holding steady in the mid 6's. A key to nutes is add them to water then pH adjust, but make sure your run off is in the acceptable 6.3-6.8 range before you go adding nutes, as they will drop the pH of your soil.

Easy way to do it, the way I do it and works great... Get a cup of water properly pH adjusted, 6.5 I like, and water your plants until there is a bit of run off pour the run off in the cup and check pH, if it is low, don't pH adjust the water, out of tap mine is 7.5ish, just let as much water drain out of the pot, wait like 10 mins, then water it again with the un pH adjusted water, test run off. Rinse and repeat until you get your desired soil pH. Let them chill for a day or two, until soil drys out a bit then mix up your nute water, pH adjust it AFTER then water away... Check pH off run off, so next time you water you have an idea what the pH of your water needs to be to maintain proper soil pH.
