Are CFL'S To Much

I bought one 26watt daylight 6500K CFL bulb to see how my plants would do with it compared to the 80watt fluorescent bulbs i already have. So far every plant i put underneath the one CFL burns the tops of the plants even a couple inches back with a fan on it. It never burned my plants underneath the fluorescent lights and i never changed anything different, only the lighting. Have any of you others heard of this? Is it just to much? Should i just stick to fluorescent lighting?

...CFL's are fluorescent lights too, they just have a twisty shape that makes them a similar size to an incandescent light bulb. Is your plant really a couple of inches away from the light, or are the tips close to the bulb itself? I only ask because CFL's don't give off much heat, and I've never heard of one burning a plant without almost touching it.

That being said, if the CFL really is burning your plant for some reason you should go back to what was working for you before. I'm skeptical about this though...

To Growers: The absolute, #1 best thing you can possibly do for your plants is research before you start. Ignoring this is like depriving your plants of light or water-- enough to ruin everything because a vital component is missing.

Im using 26w CFLs and yes two of my plants edges have burnt without any contact whatsoever. These are babies though, only a week old. One says that lpants can be kept within an inch with cfls which is ok im sure but maybe its just these two plants which are a bit more sensitive to light which are the ones who get burnt. YA MEAN?!
Im sticking with CFls though, they consume less energy and put out more lumens than fluoros. Theyre also versatile when it comes down to placing your lights in places that fluoros cant reach.

im not sure how it could be nute burn when i started it with fish emulsion then went to worm castings and they were both in small enough doses. I think some people do have problems with cfls while the majority dont, but do you think its just a sensitive plant? It is just bag seed....

It's not recommended to give nutes until your plant is 3-4 weeks old. So maybe it is a little nute burn.

I've done the CFL thing several times.

The only time a CFL should EVER burn your plant in a place with good air circulation is if it touches the plant. It'll scorch the leaf where it touched but won't just wilt it. It'll be dry and crumbly. What you have isn't burn from the lights.

In fact it almost looks like when you watered, you got water drops on the plant, and for whatever reason it turned it yellow as it evaporated. Even mild nutrients in your water can do this if it drops on the plant and just sits there until it evaporates.. it used to happen to me before I switched to foliar nutes
