Possible problem (pics)

So here is the setup...

- 2 AMS fem (also have 1 THC bomb and 1 thai stick but they are only 1 week old and still looking healthy)
- MG organic soil/perlite
- 400w MH 18/6
- Both plants are 12 days old
- Water w/ distilled water
- No pH meter (yet)
- Temp around 80-85 (day)
- Humidity around 40-55 (day)
-fan blowing at all times

I am thinking my pH is too alkaline which is causing a nitrogen deficiency and therefore causing the older leaves to turn yellow. On the one plant you can see that it got it the worst. Part of the leaf completely died and fell off. Its growth has also slowed quite a bit and is now growing kind of quarky and tangly, not nice and even like the other. I put a few drops of "pH down" into their water and watered them today, so hopefully the yellowing will stop. But it seems to be way worse in one plant than the other. Any ideas???

Healthier one...

Not so healthy...

Looks and sounds like that MG soil is burning your young plants. 12 days is too young for such strong food. Slow straggly growth is a symptom of nute burn. There are a lot of opinions about MG soil but I would just avoid it. EB Stone and Fox Farms make good soil.

I haven't given the plants any food, and the soil is MG organic which isn't supposed to have any time released or regular ferts at all...

I also have two other plants(planted in the same soil) that are a week younger than these and they are both healthy and green.

Which type of MG Organic soil are you using?
or

Cause according to their website both contain time release nutrients. I've never used MG soil but it seems like some people use it fine while others run into problems. Medium problems can cause plants to look like that as well and I've had plants show different problems all grown identically. But could be something else for sure, I just think it might be the soil. I would definitely check the PH though if you suspect that. Anyways good luck in figuring this out.

We are using the organic potting soil in the orange bag. I really hope there aren't ferts in there because if so, the two younger plants will probably run into this same problem in a few days... Thanks for the help though. Next time we will definitely pick up some fox farm or "better" organic soil from a hydro shop.

This came from their web site
Quote:
Delivers twice the growth of ordinary potting soil naturally! Contains both starting and slow-release fertilizer which feeds for up to 3 months.
And this

Quote:
Contains a blend of all-natural, organic ingredients: sphagnum peat moss and composted bark fines Natural fertilizers provide both quick- and slow-release feeding to get plants off to a fast start and keep them growing Delivers twice the growth of ordinary potting soil naturally
But hey man hopefully those other plants turn out alright but yeah maybe a better soil might work better next time. So good luck man.

Damn it, I thought the whole "organic" thing also meant NO fertilizer, but I guess not. Do you think I should get rid of this MG shit and transplant all 4 of the plants into new better soil?

Also, if it were nute burn, wouldn't all of the leaves be effected, not just the bottom ones?

Well, the lower/yellow leaves aren't getting "better," but they aren't getting any worse. The new growth is also starting to speed up and look more even and green. Looks like the problem has been at least slowed down for now...

I feel like if it were nute burn, the two other younger plants would be turning yellow as well, which they aren't.
