Question fungus gnats

i looked at Sticky's post on bugs/diseases/problems..etc but i didn't see anything on fungus gnats which i have right now. in 2 days the little bastards have multiplied drastically. i heard that if you put a 1 inch layer of sand on top of the soil the bugs larvae can't survive and therefore they can't eat and harm the roots of a plant. today i followed this method. my question is - how do i go about getting rid of the flying adult gnats without harming my plant? regardless their larvae wont' survive i still don't want them in my grow room. thanks.

yellow sticky traps, neem oil, and good ventilation. I just painted my squirrel cage fan bright yellow. I haven't seen too many lately. You have to keep your house sealed up too. They fly right through window screens.

Sand on the soil, 3-in-1 (funguscide, insectacide, miteacide) or diatomaceous earth all work as well.

Yellow stickies around your plants and on the places they like to land. next use Diatomaceous earth to absolutely destroy them. It is safe on your plants as well. Just sprinkle a layer on your soil and bam within a day no more gnats. Try to find the food grade one though as pool DE can be harmful to humans. after gants are taken out spread a thin layer of sand on the top to keep the gnats from laying there eggs in your soil. hope this helps just had a bad gnat problem myself.

Yeah just make sure you have a two pronged approach when it comes down to fungus gnats. Attack the adults with traps and attack the larvae living in the soil with gnatrol, mosquito dunks or some other silmilar BTI product. Fungus gnats are more annoying than a plant threatening issue though.
