Mutant Plant Sick!

When this plant sprouted it had 6 leaves, and continued to sprout 3 new branches with each set unlike a normal two branches with each set. I researched this and found that it could be due to mutation of some sort. After about three weeks the plant sprouted one huge disfigured leaf out of the top instead of a new set of leaves. Soon after this the plant began to die. I tried everything I knew to save it and ended up transplanting it into a smaller pot with better soil. It has not grown at all in about two weeks but it seems to be getting a little greener. Has anyone ever encountered anything like this or have any suggestions to help this thing out?

What kind of soil are you using and what's the pH?
It's probably better if you transplant it in a bigger pot, also.
It could be due to weak genetics since you said it's a mutant.
