Time for pH Adjustment to Work

This is just a quick question, but my plants' lower leaves have been yellowing and twisting, and I'm pretty sure that it's a pH problem. My meter read around 7, so I added a few drops of pH down to the water I gave them on their next watering day, and now the pH is reading slightly below 7 (and I have a much better meter coming in the mail ).

My question is, if this really was a pH problem, how long would it take for the plants to show improvement? Will the leaves change from their yellowed color back to a healthy green, and will they "untwist"? Or will those signs of damage remain, even after the plant recovers?

OK, I have a separate question, which is more important than the first, and rather than start a new thread I decided to post here again.

For anyone who uses pH up/down, how do you determine how much of the solution to add to your water before you apply it to the plants? The bottle says to be sparing, so I used only a few drops. I know that this depends on the size of the pot and other factors, but are there any rules of thumb I can follow? Or is it just a try-it-and-see sort of thing that you develop a feel for over time? Any response would be appreciated.
