What causes leaves to claw?

Clawing can mean a couple different things. Depends on where its happening and when.
Generally over heating can be the cause. Usually the only sign youll get before the leaves fry in that case.

nitrogen toxicity ....the plants leaves will not recover from the claw, you look for the new growth to not show this quality to know you have flushed the excess notrogen to acceptable levels

I'm having the same problem....tips of leaves arching down towards soil..

these are in botanicare coco......watering every other day in 4 inch pots under cfl...and temps stay between 75 and 80......

I'm using botanicare cal mag, and puravida grow formula......the plants look healthy......

i don't think i'm over watering as when i water the mix is barely damp to touch....and they will uptake water when sat into dish with water....if i watered any less frequently i don't think they would grow much...

i don't think it is heat....

i'm lost........

It seems like underwatering may have been my problem ...i watered yesterday and then fertilized.....today they look much better....i think mine need water about every 36 hours....

but i am using coco......

if the "claw" goes under it can be nitrogen toxisity, if it curls up, most likly heat stress. if it is heat stress the cerated edges of the leaves will also point up.

Mine largest one is starting to show the curling also, im trying to figure out wtf, Im just using standard miracle gro soil(unless theres something in that thats bad). I gave them a good watering today, we'll see if that helps them out. My CFL lights are like 2-3in away, and i have 2 fans on them and the temp is pretty descent.

Look closely under the new growth, you may have aphids. The small bugs cause the new leaves to curl downward and look deformed and ruffled. If you have them get an insecticide with the ingredient pyrethrum or pyrethrin...same stuff.
