1 plant drooping (the purple rooter)

Howdy.

One of my ICE plants seems to have taken a turn for the worse overnight.

My PH is still stable at 5.9, but my PPM jumped up to 1700 overnight from just 900 or so yesterday.

This is the same plant that is showing some purple roots as per my other thread in this forum.

Water temp 70F
Ambient temp 78F

Just started 12/12 4 days ago or so.

Any help is appreciated. I'm fully prepared to sacrifice this one if need be for the health of the other 4.

Thanks.

Flush her with water. Nutrient burn will make a plant droop severly. They should recover in a day or so.

If your PPM fluctuates too much invest in some fulvic acid (watch it though, it will lower your PH, which usually high PH comes in hand with high PPM fluctuations anyways). It will team up with your nutes and help your plants absorb them so those fluctuations wont hurt your plant as bad if they keep happening.

Thanks for the suggestion. Does nute burn cause purple roots and purpling of the stems?

I'm just not sure if that's the issue because of the purple roots, plus my PPM jumped from 900 to 1700 overnight. I have two plants that are 3 weeks or so younger than this one that aren't showing signs of burn...

I think I'm just going to sacrifice this one to make room for the others, but thanks for the help.

It actually never fluctuates other than this one time. The plants don't seem to take nutes in at all actually, and the PPM stays around the same level from flush to flush for whatever reason.

It's just this one time, overnight my PPM jumped from 900 to 1700 and this plant, (the oldest of the 4), looks like hell...

Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll keep it in mind.

umm maybe the roots couldn't "breath" aka take up nutrients, so the nutrient PPM skyrocketed and the purple roots are "strangled" roots. (Like when a person turns discolored from not breathing)

Im not sure, I dunno if thats even remotely possible

yeah purple roots means "strangulation" or not getting nutrients due to blockage.
you might have over nuted them. just flush your res and stop using nutes for 3 to 4 days and lower your feeding dosage and that should put you right back on track

Well, hell.

Just opened up my tent and that plant doesn't look better, but it doesn't really look worse so I'm not sure what the hell to do with it.

I think I'm going to flush it, switch out my 6500k bulbs for the 3000k ones I got today, and hope that they show sex before anything worse happens. That way I'll know which to kill and which ones not to, and if they're all female if I need to chop one down for the sake of the others.

Does anyone know if root growth continues at the same pace during flowering as it does during veg? If so I will definitely have to kill at least one of them.

I will post pics in a bit of the plant 24 hours later, and what I'm talking about with the reservoir being full of more roots than water.

Rahz (reminds of the Wu), smashio: Thanks for the suggestions. This is the oldest plant, and it has one hell of a giant root system. I'm not sure why the other one that's only a week younger with about the same size root system isn't showing the same effects, but it makes sense that they're all fighting in there due to lack of space and water.

As for the nutes, I've had more nutes in there, and I thought the younger, smaller plants would show signs of nutrient problems before this big huge mofo. However, I did just start the Lucas formula with the last res change-out (0-5-10) so I think I might go back to what I was doing before, which was half strength of the General Hydroponics Keep it Simple Recirculating schedule.

I still don't understand why the PPM would go up? As far as I've seen, the PPM hasn't fluctuated much, if at all the whole time they've been alive. It's as if they don't want nutrients...

So, I have no idea.

Thanks for the help.

I think this is the best argument for the plants needing more room to breathe:

I'm only in week one of 12/12 right now.

the bigger plant will suck more of the nutes up..and plants even tho the same strain are always different when dealing with nutes/ph/lighting ect. they are fighting for space in there seems to me.
about the root growth. it can fluxuate. some plants grow more roots when vegging and i would say about 10% of strains grow the same root mass for vegging and flowering.
remember when you take the picture of your roots...dont use the flash..
they are like Mogwai's...

they hate bright lights...
and
you cant feed em after midnight.. LMAO

nice hottie pics..

Sup smashio. Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to post about what was up with that plant in my grow journal (in sig).

Short version:

Looks like the gigantic roots had to turn once they got so long, and the place where they turned became so compact that the oxygen in the water couldn't get into it, causing root rot or some kind of nasty thick ass bundle of crap. (pics in journal)

That girl is Francine Dee, and yup she's sort of hot lol.

As to the roots, I don't know of any other way to get pics of them other than to expose them to light for a bit.

lol I knew you were jokin about the gremlin thing, but it really isn't good to expose them there roots to lights I believe.

Francine Dee doesn't do porn that I know of, but she gets plenty naked. It's against the forum rules to post naked pics, so just give it a google one time.
