Plant problems and medium problems

First off this is my first grow, I've read over 300 pages of guides etc and followed them as well as I could. I came to the forums for some expert advice as I see there are many seasoned greenthumbs here :] I will try to get a cheap digital camera soon so I can post pics.

Currently using a coco/pearlite(or vermeculite, dont know which) hydroponic medium from botanicare. Using Flora series nutes at 2/3 strength and some superthrive and epsom salts. Four plants are 3 week veg and 4 are 1 week veg.

The problem is what would seem to be a PH problem (yellowing, drooping leaves affecting the bottom leaves first and lack of clorophyll in some of the other leaves, and multiple deficiencies). Another weird thing is when I was moving my res around I noticed old root mass was being drained into the res from the filter on the drain.

The other problem was not with the plant but the pearlite or vermeculite in the medium; it was green as if chlorophyll had drained into it or something. I dont know what's causing it but even when I give them all 1/8th of a gallon of water the pearlite stays green.

Here's some specs:
2x4 hydrohut
PH is approx 5.5
TDS 900 (I know this is High I'm working on it by topping it off with 1/4th str nute solution at 300ppm every day slowly lowering it)
3 feeds during the day and 1 at night.
15 minutes per feed (5 to flood, 8 to sit and 2 to drain)
400w HPS system on 18/6. It's 19 inches above tallest plant.
Temp stays around 75 (peaks at 84 when I dont have the window open).
plenty of air circulation (160 cfm on every other 15 minutes and a hepa air filter with ionizer to supply plants with a breeze).
Also use a power head to keep my nute solution mixed up. Nute solution is currently 1 week old and I top it off every day.

Any and all help will be awesome. Thanks for taking a look and reading through this all!

It just seems impossible seeing that I check my PH at least 3 times a day and keep it at 5.2-6.0. It does fluctuate quite a bit though. Should I lose the superthrive?
I've thought of investing in some fulvic acid to help them out a little, unless it would raise my PPM too much.

Thanks for the guide though, it's pretty handy!
