wilting? over/underwatered? I dunno!

The other day my plants looked kind of "depressed" and "droopy" so I watered them a bit because the soil seemed dry.
The next day they looked even more droopy so I "googled" around and the symptoms looked like I might have over watered them.
Even though the soil felt dry on top and a few inches down I resisted the urge to water them for a couple of days, today they did not look any better so I decided to water them because the soil was very dry. I am not sure what is wrong with them and also I included photos.

any help is very appreciated

here is my "set-up" if it helps any:
*I am growing under two 4 foot florescent cool white tubes, with the plants about 3-4 inches away from the tubes, they are on 24 hour vegetative growth mode

*I have a small fan circulating air and I am growing them in Miracle-Grow Potting Mix

*I have not added any fertilizers

stick your finger 2 inches down and about and inch from the plant you should be able to know then about the water issues

What is the ph?????????

It is very possible that there is too much fertilizer (MG is loaded with horrible ferts), not enough oxygen to the roots and not a watering problem at all..

Water when the container is "light"..

Not enough fert does not cause plants to droop and adding more could kill them..

MG culprit?

I the soil I am using is :

"Miracle-GroŽ Potting Mix"

"Enriched with Miracle-GroŽ Continuous Release Plant Food which feeds for up to 3 months. Also feeds instantly to help build strong root system."

I don't know what the PH is...

I don't have a PH meter...yet

I'm gonna transplant them into some better soil
any good brands that can be found at Wal-Mart, Target or Lowes?

thanks for the uber quick replies I found some other post of people having trouble with Miracle-Grow soil

I always suggest about half peat, half perlite and 2 to 3 tablespoons of dolomite lime per gallon of mix.

If you can get non-fert peat and perlite so much the better. You are better off controlling what the plants get. Buy some organic liquid ferts you can add to your water, which should be ph corrected. MG soil ph normally sits too high when used with most tap water IME. You probably need to drop your ph about 0.5 or so. But you need a meter and do more research.

yeah if its crappy soil. it wont drain very well - although the top couple inches may seem dry. and unless thats the organic version og the MG soil, then it def has alot of nutes already in it.

fox farm happy frog soil is great stuff, all organic. and pH balanced. you prolly did over water them a little although the top seemed dry.
