Probably another hyper newbie over fertilizing (with pics!!!)

I've been flowering unknown strain for 15 days on 12/12. I am using a 400 w MH about 10 inches above the plants. My humidity is steady around 45%, temp upper 70's- low 80's. Water every 3rd or 4th day w/ 2/3 strength general hydroponics 3 part bloom formula. 100% sure there are no pests on the plant. Those are the good parts.

Over the past three days I've been noticing discolorization on the leaf tops of one of my plants. Small patches that follow the serration of the leaf. Some leaves show "tacoing" under.

Possible reasons I've thought up:

This past weekend, I repotted the plants because both turned out to be female. The store didn't have the same mix I used the first time, so I bought miracle gro moisture control. I know there is a lot of debate out there concerning how good miracle gro works. I didn't adjust my nutes for the inherent stuff in the soil (bag says .21-.07-.14). Might it be that, and what should I cut back on?

Other possibility is my water. Pre adjustment ph is over 8. I am Using ecochem ph down, but having to use a lot. I think I'm getting it down to mid 6 range, but dont really know. I'm using crappy ph papers cause I can't afford a digital one.

Anyone with ideas? Flush the soil? Better ph fix? Back light off?

Pic 1 & 2 are tops of the leaf
Pic 5 is leaf bottom
P.S. Look at pic 3 & 4... is this a hermie?

The reason why this site does not like MG is because it is bad. That tacoing shown in the picture is usually from an excess of nitrogen. In this case the combination of what you feed it and the soil are slightly over fertilizing it. MG Moisture is also bad because the soil drains poorly. Did you add perlite? One picture of black necrosis looks like it may be from smothered roots. And yes that is a hermie there. Since the over fert condition is not that bad I recommend just cutting back on the nutes you give it.

P. S. MH is for veg HPS for flower. Personally I think HPS is better for both phases.

Thanks VTEC!

The miracle gro has perlite in it, but I take it that is not enough. Can I just buy a bag and mix some in? Or should I replaces as much of the soil as I can with organic mix with a higher content of perlite?

Can careful trimming of a hermie still yield sinsimilla? I only have 2 plants, and would loathe having to get rid of one after getting my hopes up...

I think you could add perlite to the mix. It might help. It is best before hand because there will be soil now that the roots are attached to that the perlite might not penetrate.

It depends why it went hermie. Is it bad genetics or some stress such as light leaks? There is something you can spray it with that prevents hermie flowers. Forgot the name though.

To be honest, I would guess the hermie-ation of the plant is a result of age. I started this grow when my grinder got jammed up, and I opened the top compartment for the first time in 3 years. I forgot that I stored seeds there, and the discovery made me excited enough to try and germinate them. When they actually sprouted, I decided to plant them and see if they would keep growing. One thing led to another, and now I have 2 thirty inch plants into flower.

The room is definately light tight, I've been on the inside during full daylight and could not find any light leakage. So cutting away the male flowers is a no-no?

I don't know why age of the seed would make a difference. Either it will germinate or it won't. Where did this seed come from? Try cutting away male balls.

Seed are from a bag that got smoked back 3 years ago. Me and a buddy saved the seeds in a grinder cause the dope was great, and intended to grow. I've been having alot of nutrient swings, and switched ferts like 3 or 4 times. Plus, for week 1 of flowering my timer kept resetting so I don't really know if I was getting the right photo period at first. Thanks VTEC!
