Need help w/ algae & root probs!

im growing hempy style & i have alge in all my pots & i think its killing my plants roots too. i only water 1 time a day, & i have a 16" fan blowing across the plants & pots. is there a product that i can use to rid or prevent alge growth, besides h2o2. also has anybody used "rebound" a root diease product that helps w/ root rot & stuff, if so does it work, or is there something else i can use.

Algae is usually a result of warm water, and/or light leaks in the system. You'll have to try the H202, I usually just stop and clean everything.

I just finished some HB grows(other plants though)and didnt need to water every day but every 2nd or 3rd. I covered the tops with a black mesh stuff which breathed and kept the light from turning the medium that green color. How big are the pots your using and how old are the plants now?

Is the bad growth starting from the top and moving down,or is it in the middle?

Try wrapping the cups w/wide foil tape and adding a cover is all i can think of bro...

i dont really dont have bad growth, just green alge all over the perlite & RW cubes, though i now have greyish spots on 1 plant on some of the leaf blades tips & edges. i added a 2nd cup to them (more light proof now) & the alge growth has seemed to slow. i think im gonna take my biggest 1 & transplant into 4gal HB, & put it in my hydrohut w/ my 150w hps instead of the 400w, since its just 1 plant, which i want to be the mom, take 4-6 clones, then flower them all, & keep the clones in veg (except 1, which will be new mom), until harvest, then restart it over again.

Sounds like ya got it figured out.Use a flashlight in the dark to see how much light leaks and if your not happy add some black plastic or foil between the two cups.

Its a common problem with perlite and RW cubes, since most peeps use the RW on hydroton it is just confined to RW. However in a hempy bucket with straight perlite it will be a problem if light gets in, so put little lids on top of the cups that block the light. On true Hempy buckets some peeps use vermiculite on the top layer say 1 inch which does not have this problem.

As well peroxide will not help becuz it settles to the bottom and kills any advantageous bacteria, the plants natural flora which fends off any bacteria good.

So either light block it with a shade disk or put a layer vermiculite on top or both. I'd do both.

PS. Read up on vermiculite vs perlite, major differences of what they can and cannot do.

Did any greyish spots form on the medium?

IIRC JCJ uses 20-30% vermiculite in the mix but if 100% added to the top will keep the algae away thats a great tip.I thought when moisture and light/heat were together it promoted algae and vermiculite holds water better than perlite so i cant see why it would work but if it does thats all that matters.

Why would you do that when you can focus all of time and energy to perfecting soil grows ?

But to each his own, I have tried many of the alternatives and nothing produces the flavor and aroma like a correctly done soil grow.

Either way good luck.
