Any Ideas?

hey
for some reason within the last couple of days the lower growths on one of my bigger plants has turned yellow and started to dry up. Also one of the younger ones has started to become discolored as well. Any ideas as to what i might be? I thought it was Ph in the beginning but after checking the Ph of the water before watering and then checking the Ph from the run off it doesnt seem to be off by that much. Another thing that might help is the temp inside the grow box does get pretty hot but im working on a solution to that and the plants have a fan directly on them to help counteract the high temps.
Any input would be greatly appriciated!

yeah im using fox farms grow big and big bloom. i know you guys really dont think too highly of it but my friend did a couple of good grows with MG so im using that for soil. last night i watered it with just some plain old tap water instead of with the fox farm nut and it seems to have perked up but the newer growths still seem a bit yellower then normal. im thinking mayb its not responding well to the nuts cuz i recently just started watering with the fox farm but for the first week or so it seemed to like it and then this happened. i followed all of the instructions for diluting it in water and everything so im not too sure.

so just an update. i have stopped using the additional fox farm nuts and the newer growths seems to have a nice color to them. the older growths still have the yellow coloring so i am assuming that they will be alright but should i still be worried if the older growths dont change back to a darker green color or are they going to stay that color for the remainder of the grow? thanks to any replys!

slideordie77,

Your first picture shows the problem. In your soil is a time release fert ball. For most indica sativa strains these fert balls are way too much for seedlings. Then you are adding on top of that the fox farm and you are making them worse.

Please refer to the group shot. The middle plant up front and the one to the left of that show the second problem with MG soil. See how clumped up it is? Good soil, eve n when wet, should fall nicely through your fingers and be nice and airy.

Third problem which is not too bad, and you already know about it, is the heat stress.

So, if you want to keep them in the sub-par soil, either live with the yellow or try a flush. However the third problem with MG Time release is the fert balls can't really be flushed out.

I won't even mention the fourth problem with the soil and that is if a flush is attempted, the poor draining soil can sometimes lead to an over watered condition exacerbating the problem.

LOL, VTEC, straight and to the point, gotta love the guy for that, but he's dead on with the soil and nute balls... way to over nuted.

We know the top is nice and green and the bottom is yellow, that's nute burn more like nitrogen burn.

2 things: All potting soils are not created equal.

1. Companies throw nutes especially nitrogen in there potting soil because grandma is replanting her daisies and when she does she sees nice new green leaves afterwards and says this stuff is great and tells her friends... just a marketing ploy so all grandma's buy that potting soil.

2. Using too much nitrogen is like standing in a fire, your feet burn up while your hands are nice and toasty.... same as your plants, the bottom leaves are burning while your upper leaves are dark green. Not good they are standing in a fire, lol.

Change that soil and she'll love ya back

Good luck, bro
