after correcting the conditions that was making my plant sick, about how long should it take for the plant to get back to full health?

fyi- my plant is about 5 inches tall, and was on the brink of death. now it is looking a bit better, but not healthy

Depends on many factors. What was the cause, how bad it was, genetics, current conditions. More experienced may have a better guess but i would say shock generally lasts anywhere from 24-72+ hours before you start noticing more positive changes.
