Root Problems

I have two plants in a rainforest bucket. One of them went to shit pretty quickly and I am going to take it out. The weird thing is the other plant is pretty healthy. They both are about 2 ft tall and have a shit ton of roots. The roots are tangled together. I was wondering if it will kill the plants if you cut the roots?

It won't kill them if your careful not to remove too much I would assume.
