DWC roots doing something new... (pics)

Yesterday I learned that I was improperly using the Lucas formula at 5ml/10ml on HPS and upped my nute strength dramatically to the recommended 950-1000ppm @ .5.(Here's a link to that thread: http://forum.grasscity.com/sick-plan...ms-w-pics.html)

Today everything is looking better up top, one of the plants grew about 1" in the last 24 hours. Crazy. But something new is happening to the roots:

All 3 plants on this system have basically one of each of the symptoms shown in the pics. 1 cluster of small black/white specs clinging to the roots, and 1 cotton-ball tuft looking thing.

Pic #1 is the tuft thing, pic #2 and #3 are the black/white specs in 2 different DWC bubble buckets.

Any idea what the heck these things are? Did I nute burn the roots? Nutrient crystals? Should I hit it with some H2O2? Should I stop looking at my roots and forget about it?

THANKS!

I'd love to help you with this one, Lif, but I'm afraid you've passed my the limits of my expertise lol. Except for the oddities you've pointed out, you're roots look really healthy. Is it possible that something's been carried in from your growing medium? What are you using, hydrotron?

Wish I could be more helpful, but I'm stumped.

Yeah, I'm using Hydroton in 6" net pots (seeds were started in 1.5" rockwool cubes). I washed it really well before using it and I've peeked at my roots about every other day during the grow. This is definately a new thing...

Nothing smells bad, which I heard was a sign of the dreaded pythium. I've smacked em with 2-3ml/gal of 35% H2O2 every few days just out of fear of getting some kind of bacterial infection...

I'll keep an eye on em I guess and see what happens...

Thanks for the reply

it doesnt look like a big prob, & dont know whats causing it, but u can add h202 3% @ a rate of 1-2 caps per gallon, & u can also try adding 1 drop of dish soap to each bucket.

What's a capful? Like 2-3ml? So you're saying like 2-6ml of 3% per gal? I've been using 2-3ml of 35% about 2x a week.

So that's like 5-10x more than you recommended.

Am I gonna fry the roots or is that ok?

how big is your res, have u used the 35% in past?, but from what ive read, heard, it doesnt take much of the 3% to do what it needs to do, ive been told more than a few caps full of h202 per gallon can kill, but im not sure. & is the 35% food grade h2o2. u can dilute the 35% down to 3%, if the 35% is a gallon, just take 11.5 gallons of distilled to the 1gal 35% to make 3%. also if u are useing any foods - nutes w/ Beneficial bacteria, fungi or enzymes, the h2o2 will kill thes off, especially if your useing 35%, 3% will only kill most.
