Look at these guys... some yellowing and curling trouble

My friend who grows legally in cali sent me this message:

"I can't tell if I have nutrient burn, potassium deficiency or both. My TDS meter is fucked... my ph has been a little high because I just calibrated my pen to find that it was also way off. Leaves are curling up like I'm trying to roll something in them... some tips are brown and curling down. I dropped my ph to 5.8 and I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and start flushing because they are so damn close. If this is potassium deficiency, I don't want to just go and dump the nutes when I only have a week left with them before I was planning on flushing anyhow (I just put them in). I'm just not convinced that it is nutrient burn because my ph was admittedly a bit high and no one says anything about the leaves curling up like this due to the nute burn. I'm getting my tds meter replaced but what do you think I should do in the mean time?"

I guess what my friend is asking is, "what's with the drastic upcurling leaves?" and "what's the worst that could happen if these things were left one more day in this solution assuming a nutrient burn is to blame?"

Sometime in the afternoon I'll get out to the hydro shop... in the mean time, I'm going to chance it with my adjusted ph
Thanks for any input

That's called cannoeing. I would just start my flush aweek early. If that isn't wanted a proper ph would be my 1st goal.

im hoping by 5.8 you meant 6.8 and mistyped, for soil you want 6.5to 6.8 (im assuming its a soil grow, cant tell by the pics) if its a hydro grow im useless, i dont know enough about it to give you any useable advice. if thats the case wait for a few of our more experienced growers to come online, theyll be happy to help ya out.

I'ld change something for sure then. Me? I'ld clean res out and start proper ph flushing.

Bud looks good, but that could change in a day w/hydro and bad ph.

What's the biggest risk that one could face if the problem is nute burn? I'm having trouble finding anything on cannoeing but I haven''t searched google yet, just this site. My friend is going to dump these nutes after one day and night at the correct ph (he also drained some of the water and replaced it with fresh just to lower the ppm a bit. Is cannoeing a result of nute burn or potassium deficieny? If nute burn is the issue, it would probably be best to just drain everything and start the flush. However, if this problem has been caused by potassium deficiency, starting the flush when the plants are already without potassium might be bad. I suppose my friend's question is this: assuming that the ph has now been controlled, would it damange the plants to have an 800-1000 ppm level if nutrient burn was an issue? I just feel like things might get bad if he starts flushing while these plants are already hungry for something.

Sorry I had a stoned moment.

Yes it's nute burn. The reason I would start flush. The nutes can burn up into the bud causing really bad taste if not premote mildewing buds. Best of luck Mrwizard.

Thanks for the reply Alex, I will start my flush tonight. I'm guessing that my ph had been around 6.5 the whole time... makes me want to kick myself. Would it be a bad idea to add a little bit of phos in the flush in case the plants are looking for it? I'm talking just a liiiittttle bit. Considering that phos is supposed to be locked out at anything above 6.1, it seems like it may be a good idea. Otherwise, assuming the plants are phos deficient and I just clean-water flush, will I be sacrificing any of that last budding/thc production effort that the plants push for at the end? The help is much appreciated.

Yes add if you've got ph correct. Flushing is the easiest way sir. not the only way though. sounds like your knowkedge is not limited at all. Sometimes you have to trust yourself, but this place would have been big help 30 yrs ago for me.
