transplant help

I have a friend who started a plant outside with outside soil. He brought it to my place where it currently resides. The plant actually looks good and healthy but i can see some bugs in the soil. I dont want bugs in my house if i can prevent it. My question is would it be very harmful to the plant if i wash the roots of its current soil then plant it in completly fresh soil in a new and bigger pot. The roots are reaching the ends of its current pot and needs to be transfered anyways. Its currently just growing off daylight in one of my windows and its suprisingly working quite well.

Oh the plant is indoors now.

dont waste time stunting growth by totally removeing it from current soil. transplat the plant in the soil to a bigger container and deal with the bugs. smash the fuckers or get a magnifying glass and burn them or somthing. but thats just me!
