Slugs and bugs?

Are slugs bad? I see them crawling up my plants pot. I also have my leafs like swiss cheese.

I have heard that spreading beer around the plant will keep away bugs. Is this true?

i think they eat the leaves. My aunt would pour beer in a bowl and place it next to the her plant and the next day bugs were falling into her bowl. It does work, but I don't know for sure for mj plants. I never grew them, so Ihave no idea what's it like.
