Outdoor- bring back from dead?

I tried some advise I got on the board I thought would work well (putting a 2 liter bottle over your sprout, like a greenhouse so nothing eats it). The 2-liter idea was a bad one, and it killed all the leafs. I wish I had a camera, but the leafs are like a damp, brown color... like they rotted or something. I'm wondering, since it has its root structer developed, can I cut the old, dead leafs off and MAYBE hope for some new growth outta the top? Or scrap it and focus on my indoor babies?

no its not a bad idea ...... its still what your doing is the issue?? no one else has this issue and there are many using the bottle idea

we have several plants @ 1.5ft tall that came of of the bottles 2 weeks ago....

did you unscrew the top cap so the plant could breath, did you remove the bottle every once in a while to allow fresh air movement ?

and it does sound like rotting (damping off is the name) too much water & it was condensing in the bottle.

if you have enough experience to grow indoors, why did you let this plant rot? this doesnt happen over nite, its neglect on your part to allow any plant to degredate to a point of rotting., & then blame your neglect on someone else trying to help you????

actually, it did happen overnight. Overday rather. So dont give me the neglect crap. Cap was off, I was under the impression it didn't need to be removed for air circulation(the bottle, air vented outta top right?). Your right, there was condensation on the bottle so it rotted. If I have to go check on it every few hours for this to work I just wont do that and see if I can get chicken wire or something like that.

this bottle idea isnt my idea people have been using terrarium type ideas of different fashions to grow weed before I was born.
a plant does not rot over nite there are signs first that you just didnt notice, but Im sure your right, and everyone else is just real lucky theres didn't rot too.

I can tell you infact some seedlings can die within a matter of hours with this idea, some have no problems with it... ive only had 2 die from that out of 20-30 so... its not a bad idea at all

ofcourse they can, heat stress from not acclimating them, is usually the cause, & your experience of 2 out of 30 shows quite clearly this is a terriffic way to keep the slugs away that WILL KILL THEM so dont blame the bootle for the 2 you lost

in this dudes case he has excess water issues causing damping off, no plant dies in a few -24 hours from too much water.

well, I took the bottle off, cut the leafs off and i'll be keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Really shocked that happened, i'm deff. gonna have to consider moving the plant to a spot where I can keep an eye on it better.

How can I tell for signs of this earlier? I know if the soil has to much water the leafs will droop but thats the only sign I know to look for atm. I'm suprised the plant had "too much water," i've never let the soil get to the point where it runs out of the buttom, but i'll make a note of it.

the soil was already infected, & you overwatered & gave the fungi the wet conditions it needed.When seeds are planted in infested soils, damping-off fungi may attack them at any stage. The damping-off fungi may attack the seed prior to germination, or they may attack after the seed has germinated but before the seedling has emerged above the soil line. Although it can start anywhere at anytime, infected seedling stalks usually becomes thiner in diameter, soft and mushy turning a brown to black color, and it eventually disintegrates & the plant colapases.Seeds that have germinated and become infected develop water-soaked spots that enlarge and turn brown. The infected tissue collapses, resulting in death of the seedling. Penetration and death of seeds before they emerge is termed preemergence damping-off.

lol I can tell you have one too, and i've been trying to bite my tounge. I do thank and respect you for all of the advise you have because it does help.
