what is this? w/pics

I have a 4 week old plant under 5 26w cfls (with 2 other plants) on a 18/6 schedule. I looked at them today and this girl looked droopy and the leaves seemed as if the top layer was flaking off. I watered and the leaves picked up some but I am a bit worried about how the leaf looks. Anyone know what it is? By the way how am I doing with it otherwise?

That definately looks like overwatering to me. When the soil doesn't have a good chance to dry out, it will prevent the roots from getting the oxygen that they need. What type of soil are you using?

there is no chance of it being overwatering. the soil i have is 45% organic soil, 45% perlite and 10% peat.

the pot looks awful small for a plant that size. transplant it to a larger pot or bucket. i had success with droopy plants this way.

i had originally had it in soil that had some time release nutes in it but i got it out of that quickly. i have been feeding every 3 days and only about 4 ounces of water. she is in a 4 inch pot. i did use fish emulsion when this happened and i didn't pour the water on top. instead i put it in a dish and let it soak up from the bottom. i stuck my finger in more than halfway down (over 2 inches) and it was bone dry. plus it only took about 5 minutes for it to soak up all that water. do you think it is time for a bigger pot? i thought i had a lot more time before transplanting. it is still growing nicely day to day, just the bottom fan leaves are looking grim. thanks for all your replies.

the plant is extremely dark green, which is why I asked about the ferts

showing signs of nitrogen toxicity & burn, but the growth is also swollen a sign of overwatering

a pot that small 1 oz is enough every 3 days , however you need transplant it to a larger pot

fish emulsion alone wont be sufficient ferts and its quite acidic so watch your PH closely

Ok, I transplanted to a bigger pot. I think that my babies are looking worse. The big one in the first 2 pics is the problem child. I did burn her upper leaves on the cfl which is why it is brown, but the lower leaves are turning a bad yellow with what looks like burns all over them. The smaller (3rd pic) is getting yellow around the edges yet it is always looking spry and growing, albeit slowly. I checked my ph with a rapitest soil checker and it looked like it was in the middle of 6.0 to 7.0. I would like to say almost right in the middle but it was a "match the color of the solution" type tester. Not the best I'm sure. Thanks for your help so far.

yeah thats the nitrogen toxicity & burn I mention its just finishing what it started, fert burns never repairs themselves

just let the plant recover for a while

the ferts you mentioned 15 30 15 will work, at this time the high phos will promote root growth for your young plant

something with less nitrogen for budding
