On some of my bud sites where there should be white hairs are brown hairs that look like they're dying. What is this?

I've read many grow journals and have never seen this before. They're supposed to get smaller like that?

Find better grow-journals!
Once the pistil hairs go amber, the wrinkle a bit, making them look less long.
Also because amber is darker then white, again they look smaller.
