Has Anyone Ever Used Duct Tape?

I had a rather unfortunate accident with one of my flowering plants yesterday. Sometime in the dark cycle a plywood panel fell off of the inside of my grow cabinet and landed right on top of my best plant.

I am not sure how long the playwoord panel was laying on it, because it was in the dark cycle, but when I lifted the panel I almost cried. The plant looked like absolute crap. Everything was smushed and mangled.

I manage to stand the plant upright, but noticed that there was a rather large split in the main stem about 3 or 4 nodes from the top. (There were also several split on some of the secondary bud sites themselves, but they were too far gone to be saved.

I had to repair the main stem. If I didn't, I would lose 3 or 4 bud sites and the main cola. The only thing that I had handy was duct tape. Now I know that they make gardeners tape specifically for this purpose, but the stores were closed when I found the plant and duct tape was the only thing that I had. Has anyone else ever used duct tape to repair a plant? I am sure there are some nasty chemicals on it, but will it keep the plant alive long enough to bud?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks and happy growing.

keep alive is one thing, quality is another. what you could have done is used unbleached paper, or paper and wrapped it tight, and put a bandaid around it. i think that would be a bit better than duct tape.

if you have a snapped sappling or flowering but still scrawny plant

use the paper backing off a pack of rolling papers a paper towel and a ziptie

gently zip the paper bit wrapped with the paper over it snug and use the zipties end to steady it

lightly mist the paper bit with water and keep air moving change it every week or so till it's knotted up and proceeds its growth

i havent used duct tape but the exact same thing happened to me last night...

ironically enough it was a piece of plywood too...

I cut the tip off of an old shoelace and tied it extra tight around the main cola,
Went in today and everything seems fine.

PS: make damn sure the shoelase is clean, mines white and never been used! lol
