Can anyone identify the problem w/ this plant?

Until I transplant tommorrow, I did cut some of the larger fan leaves off. They were basically crunchy, dead things. Is this OK? Since I am LST'ing it actually looks much better.

Will this hinder the growth at all by cutting of dead fan leaves?

Here are today's pics of the plants. The one actually looks a little better, but I think it is because I cut the dead leaves off. Let me know. I really appreciate all of your help.

I have never used T5's before, but I have a 4ft. 8 bulb set up. Right now I have a mix of cool and warm bulbs for a broad spectrum light. Would it be better if I used all of one kind for veg and all of the other kind for flowering? Or, is the mix the best? I have read mixed reviews on this. The lights can be kept so close to the plant that I think they are growing very bushy.

I transplanted them into FF today. I hope I didn't stress them out. I tried to remove as much of the other soil as possible. That soil was sooo bad. I think it will do much better now. I will post new pics once I see if they survived my transplant. That FF soil seems great...really, really light. Nice. Learn something every time. Good and Bad. All of your comments are appreciated too since I am still pretty much a newbie.
