Unhappy Holes in the leaves

I haven't seen any and 2. they aren't all holes some are just like cuts. The brown spots also seem to be spreading, slowly but they are spreading. The pix are of the holes mainly and one of the spots the holes seem to be on the top 2 or 3 nodes and the spots seem everywhere from mid to top level (not EVERYWHERE but sparatically (sp?) I don't know if it's bugs since I haven't seen any and they aren't always holes sometimes they are just slits or like cracks.

some useful stats:
it's 40 days old still vegging
in a 5 gal bucket with a mix of MG moisture control and scotts potting soil for helping roots.
I've only administered nutes once and that was from a fish emulsion its 5-1-1
I noticed most of the problems after adding the nutes and LSTing and the spots were there before the holes and there is no pattern of leaves w/ holes having spots as well or not .
My lights a pretty close to the leaves with the holes (excluding one) and they are 2 40W flouros that are close to it and 2 more that are on my other plant but some light may reach it.

Any advice or ideas are very appreciated.

More pix and info can be found in my journal in my sig. Thanks again.

holes are from animals. insects, slugs, aphids, leaf cutters, etc.

my guess is that u shouldnt worry nuthing about a few small holes. as long as there isnt a pattern of massive hole spots.

from the pix, i dont see much in the way of problems.

Does your Scott's soil have any "time release" fertilizer in it or an NPK ratio?

Have they been in that soil since the beginning or did you transplant recently into that? Holes in the plants are some kind of pest as froggy said.

it's been in the new soil for quite some time I'd say at least 20 days if not more and the holes have only started forming in the past week. The stats of the soil are .00,.01,.00.

well I would say you have 2 probs, one you are begining a nute prob and you got a bug or two having lunch, get something to eradicate the bugs before they start laying eggs. I would also say lower the nutes but you got time release soil(F'ked-up again)I really can't understand why anyone would use any time released ferts, its just not worth the probs I read about. I was lucky my first time I went cheap and got plain ol' top soil mixed with perlite and no time release ferts thank God.

I attempted to get nute-free soil at about 5 dif. stores and found none so I settled with the "anything but MG" idea. I'll try and get something for the bugs, any suggestions?

Is there any way that the bugs are spider mites? I just checked a thread about them on this page and the pix look nothing like mine but the symptoms are similiar just not nearly as devastating. I am going to make that batch of tobacco stew/juice/repellant tonight. Will it kill all bugs or only spider mites?

Should kill other bugs too.
Make up some of that and spray them down. Don't spray your lights!

promix is nut free. its sold at box stores like home depot.

corn meal? ive never heard that one... 'eight' is a fairly benign insect spray that u can also get @ home depot. it kills most everything. u can eat the produce like 48hrs after application, tho i wouldnt. certainly i wouldnt start spraying @ the last weeks of flowering, u should have everything dialed in by then anyhow.

if u smoke tobacco, that smoke is fairly toxic to insects, flying insects especially. i cig a day will keep the white fly away... tho im not sure what its also doing to u whilst its directly in ur lungs but its ur nasty habbit, who am i to say...

the beauty of promix is that its airy, which is nice for seedlings and starter plants. its also virtually nute free, which means that u know where u are and can buy products at ur local grow store with the directions all there on the bottle. and those directions on teh bottle are designed for soilless potting mix, like promix. those measurement are NOT for potting soils like miricle grow, et al. potting soil with all the 'goodies' has a tendency to be too clingy for baby plants. there is something called 'metromix'. its a very light airy nonclumping and easily wetted sterile medium that all babies start from in my gardens of delight. go to any garden store and ask for metromix. if they dont know what it is, they shouldnt be selling stuff...tho sadly that is becoming the norm.

your local grow shop has all this stuff. go give em a visit...
