usually when something like this happens i designate a space to germ a bag seed, and it will probably sprout no problem, leaving me to believe its the seed thats the problem not the germinator

your case may be different im not an expert

im no expert

but i just germ in a little glass coaster deal, using the paper towel method

and never noticed a difference between covering and not covering.

if 4 sprouted and 3 didnt, i dont know im sure its the seed not the germinator but wait for someone else to chime in with an opinion

i dont ussually completly seal off the container, but i'm not sure whats better for the seed, i would think it needs air ??? anyways, not every seed is going to germinate. some just dont have what it takes!

Seeds do age. Dry, cool storage preserves them in a viable state for a long time. The dryer, the better.

If your seeds don't sprout immediately (3-4 days), re-moistening your paper towel with hydrogen peroxide solution (2-3% strength) will at least delay the growth of bacteria and mold. If the seeds are not viable, then it won't help. If they are just weak (poorly stored?), it can make the difference.

Good luck,

Gene
