Intercepted!!! Now what?

Well, a buddy of mine just got an envelope in the mail, but, lo and behold, it had been ripped open, gutted, and taped shut. Inside was a letter from the USDA noting that they had "removed and destroyed" the cannabis seeds inside.

Now, the question is: can anything come of this? Is this enough for anything criminal?
The letter was not addressed to him, and was from a private person, not a bank.

whoever sent the note was a freakin' idiot! LOL the USDA does NOT go around intercepting beans! holy sheeit. that's funny. the USDA doesn't have jurisdicction over weed! their job is to make sure that foods are safe etc. it's just some moron trying to keep your buddy from putting 2 and 2 together. i'd bet it's someone he knows who just so happened to know about the order and snatched it.

from what i've read, when your order gets snatched for real. you just get a letter saying such.

the government wouldn't waste postage on an empty package either.

The USDA has no jurrisdiction over that. If it was international mail, it would have been U.S. customs, and if it was domestic, it would never have been checked. Either way no gov't agency would take the seeds out and send the rest of the envelope back taped up. Someone knew what was in there and helped themselves, probably the mailman.

Ok, so I went and actualy looked at the letter. It's for real, no doubt about it. Clearly referenced CFR, signatures. Very legal. The part of it that tells him where and why thiese things were seized and destroyed is from Customs. The attached explanation is some USDA(Department of Agriculture) letter explaining their policy on shipping plants and seeds to the US.

I think he's fine. The letter did not have his name, and was sent to his girls house, where nothing illegal occurs. I told him the cops aren't gonna show up at her door, it would be impossible to prove anything... by that standard, I could send something illegal to anybody and have them arrested. But I really, don't know, I was trying to make him feel better.

So, someone weigh in and tell me I'm right... hopefully someone with a knowledge of laws and shipping/ customs standards of the US.

PS: Mailmen would likely not steal seeds, and if they did, I doubt they'd come up with such an elaborate scheme.

Was not USDA it was customs...

But with Bush in Office you can never tell

What will come of it??? With Bush in office probably nothing he's to busy spending billions on camera's that no one will monitor.

Worse case, name of whoever it was sent to is added to a nice long list of people receiving seeds "Conspiring to import Illegal Drugs" and when the next bust goes down may or may not be fined.

Well put it this way you cant bring any seeds or plants back into the US without FDA approval. Its to keep invasive species or plant diseases out, so the FDA can take your seeds even if they are not MJ.

i would still think that the "food chain" might look something like

1. customs
2. DEA
3. FBI

long before the department of agriculture would get involved. i would think they have much bigger fish to fry unless the importation of invasive species is really that big of a problem. i'd think that tankers dumping their bilge water into lakes and shipping produce across state lines are much bigger concerns for the USDA.

don't underestimate the possibility of mail carriers, or especially post office mail sorters grabbing packages that look enticing. i'm sure that more than one postal employee has an entire DVD collection etc. that cost nothing.

i know SOMEONE snatched BOTH of my money orders sent to a record company for a japanese import CD and there wasn't a thing i could do about it even with delivery confirmation and registration. i'm out $60 that SOMEONE spent and that's just the way it is.

like i was saying in another thread too, this dude on the bus went out of his way trying to con me into taking my money out of the bank and putting it in a post box which is "the safest place in the world" (yeah right!) and wouldn't shut up until i told him to piss off. i've never smelled ulterior motives more in my life.

anyone remember that hidden camera expose on postal theft durnig the holidays in which employees on camera were opening envelope after envelope with a card and then tossing them after grabbing any cash inside? it happens.

i would imagine that they ESPECIALLY keep their eyes oipen for packages sent overseas as there has to be something "extra special" in such a package of something unavailable in the US. just a theory.

Thumbs up

Nothing is going to happen to your friend. On a different site, one guy got his beans took by customs 2 time in a row with the letter saying it is illegal to ahve cannabis seeds blah blah blah. He even showed us the letter by scanning it. He ordered again and got his beans, LOL on the 3rd try. All this happened around march and he is still growing his plants and no cops are knocking on his door or anything like that. Your friend or who is safe, the gov/counties we live in are not going to waste money and time going to every house that ordered seeds online. They only go after the big growers when they have enough evidence to get a search warrant to kick your door own and take you and your plants . I do think people should be smart and stay safe though, don't tell people that you grow if you really grow . Stay Safe Everyone & Happy Holidays TO YOu All...

FYI names are not flagged, addresses are. If you dont want it getting seized again (or at least have a much smaller chance of that), get it shipped to a different address with a different slight mis-spelling of the name that was on it.
