Also you can tell what colour they are. Good to know sense the colours tell you what type of high your going to be getting.

There is no direct correlation between bud's appearance and actual THC content. Looks and smell don't mean much at all. Seed banks lie and exaggerate their strain's THC content to sell their product. These banks also breed strains specifically for bag appeal and not for actual potency. There is no way for you or I to test potency objectively.

The 'smoke it and compare' idea isn't an objective measure because whichever sample you 'test' second is at a distinct disadvantage due to thc tolerance.

To summarize, we can't test thc levels without expensive chromatography equipment.

He's swimming in bud so I doubt he cares much about it burning away. Anyways he's very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. THC percentage is just a marketing scheme.

I would say: they dry the bud completely, using a temp under the vaporisation point of THC. Then they would weigh it(call that weight x), vaporise the dry bud, at the exact temp for vaporisation of THC and re-weigh it. Subtract the new weight from the old weight and you get the weight of the THC from the dry plant material (call that y). Then simply do, y * x / 100, which gives you the percentage of THC. Just my guess though

THC content is measured by a process called gas chromatography. generally what happens is they take a sample of the bud (only need a small representative) and put it in a very expensive machine that passes the sample through a column with specific chemicals in it that will slow each component of the sample down as it travels through the column, carried by a gas. since all the componants are effected differently, each slows down at different rates, causing them to seperate. they find the fraction with THC, measure its percent in relation to the mass of the sample, and there you go.

its the same process many labratories use to test your urine for THC metabolites in drug tests. as you can see, its a very powerful technique which is why its VERY difficult to beat a lab. drug test.

It takes a well equipped lab to do so, and it's illegal in many countries for legit labs to do THC testing.

Personally most of the numbers quotes by seed banks are most likely bullshit.

OSG said it. It's illegal for labs in most countries to test this. I'd also guess that the few places it is legal don't have the equipment to do so. I may be wrong, and if anyone knows a legit lab that test's marijuana please share.

Weigh a gram of bud out. Now soak it in 100% isopropyl alcohol for a day covered and remove the bud, toss it. Let the alcohol evaporate and what is left over is almost pure THC. Scrape up, EVERY LAST BIT, and weigh that. It has to be in the form of point something grams, like 0.12 grams or something. Convert to percentage. There you go, simple as that, how did no one else think of it?...

As close as you can get without paying money for equipment no one cares about...

Won't work. There is thc in the plant matter don't ya know... and there is random other shit like chlorophyll in the extracted thc.

I won't pretend to have an accurate measure of THC, but i have a rule of thumb i use besides the effects. I watch for how much keif i collect from the buds when stored and ground up for vape bowls

It would be great if their was a simple and accurate test, but there isn't and im not too worried.

Ive been thinking about how theres a percentage of THC in marijuana. Now what Im wondering about, lets say a certain plant is said to have 20% THC. Now, since its a percentage, there has to be another 80% of something else in the plant. Saying this, I wonder, what that 80% of the "PIE" is?

What I think is, when hash is made that other 80% of whatever has been filtered away, and then that 20% is converted to 100% because, the other chemicals or w/e have been taken away from the "PIE" (just ignore if that is possible or not), but, the THC has not increased in potency, it has just be concentrated. So you have now 2 percentages? One is the THC potency and the other is the THC concentration %. The potency % I guess would produce better quality concentrations.

I have nothing to back anything I just said up, Im just going on what Ive been thinking about.

Tell me if that makes sense.

Impossible. Youd have to test each bud each time. What they would do is likely submit the cream of the crop (literally) or use an average. Then that number would probably be the whole batch. Otherwise testing each bag would make the weed WAY more expensive. And different plants and grows of the same strain are obviously going to vary. Its a plant, there is nothign that stable about it.

damn that's not a bad idea. As long as you took several samples and came up with a consistent average and you had a really nice scale you could do this at home
