Strain types, or how they're grown. Plants grown at lower temperatures can have purple tinted leaves, while some strains like Purple #1 and Purple Haze can have 100% purple buds. In my experience, I've found purple buds to be more potent than green. This is probably due to the fact that about 99% of the green ganj you get in WI is beasters. But there are plenty of green colored strains that are favored over purple. It really comes down to your taste for the most part.

bud that is purple is usaully because of Genetics like erkle,GDP,Lavender,Gods Gift, and then other weed that is purple is becasue of cold temperatures that turns the plant purple

true that. you can have green ganj thas 100x as good as some purple stuff....but as for me, the only purple pot i've ever smoked (rare in jersey, dank is hard to get) has been quite exquisite (some purple erkle shipped from cali )

Some strains turn purple on their own, in normal growing conditions.
However, purple having hype, dishonest growers have found they can "make" their bud turn purple by lowering the temperature of the grow for a period. This action stresses out the plant, and can't be considered good for it.
The marijuana reacts to the cold by generating dark pigment, because then the plant absorbs more sunlight than it did when green.

I'm willing to say purple has NO EFFECT on potency. First of all, I have yet to smoke something purple that was significantly better than other green weeds in its class. Second, some of the best reputed purple strains i've smoked, had no purple. The best batch of GDP I tried was green.

the only thing that affects potency is the amount of THC in the trichomes, Although purple weed generally takes more skill to grow than green, so it's more rare and therefore considered better.

x2, get some new connects, if you can't find good bud in Wisconsin you aren't looking very hard. Purple is just caused by a chemical, no different than chlorophyll(the green), it's caused by cold temps and genetic make-up of the strain.
