homemade bowls

I like making homemade pieces, but sometimes I have a hard time making a bowl. I don't own a glass bowl/slide, so right now I've been using a socket that slides onto a diffused pen tube, with some aluminum foil acting as a screen and something to hold both pieces together. The tube doesn't burn, and I've taken the proper measures to make sure the socket is clean, but I hate using the foil. Anyone have any suggestions, comments, or alternative methods/ideas for bowl making? ty

I'm not sure what etal is, but most metal bottle caps have paint on them, and some sort of coat, it sounds like a great idea though.

Buy some screens at the local head shop and solder them on!

Go to the sink in your house and take the screen out of the faucet. Then cut it to size and put that in your socket. It will clog up over time so you either want to go buy more screens (should be only $2 at a hardware store), or have some isopropanol to clean the screen out.

don't use the screen out of your sink, it will change your water pressure and someone will notice. If you live alone you should be able to afford a pack of screens for $1.50 at Home Depot If you live with parents or anyone else they will notice the pressure change in the sink and you should still be able to afford them.

Most people I know who get caught,by the people they live with, get caught for this reason.

I have removed the faucet screens in the past, and have also found some spare ones, my experiences with them were not pleasant. After boiling them too make sure they were clean, I used them, when inhaling they left a bad taste in my mouth and I felt like I had just eaten something really spicy and a mild burning sensation. I removed the screen too make sure it wasn't the herb or bowl...it was the screen. This has happened to me with several faucet screens, with and without the boiling. So i generally stay away from faucet screens now. Buying some from a headshop and soldering them onto the socket is a great idea, thx.

quit alumihatin. you realize it has to be burned at like 1700)c to go into your system. so while our bics, burn at 800)F ? that somehow gets aluminum into our systems? theres nothing to worry about lol. same with lockjaw and all.

Well actually...

If you get a piece of foil right now.... Hold a lighter to it for a few seconds on one spot.

Rather quickly, smoke will be produced.... Off of the foil.

So where as solid aluminum may not melt/combust till '1700 degrees'...

SOME aluminum foil by-products WILL be turned into smoke and thus inhaled.

Just pointing that out... I dont care either way...
Talking of Foil brings back memories.

*Edit:* Solid Aluminum MELTS at 1220.666 °F. Or 660.37 º C.

A bics flame registers at about 450 degrees Celsius = 842 degrees Fahrenheit.

Aluminum is madd brittle when it starts getting heated up. Id take caution using anything aluminum while smoking. Stick to stainless steal if you can.
