How long does pot stay good?

I have a safe and masons jars. I want to start storing large amounts of pot incase for some reason I can't get any for a while.

How long will it last in jars?

I obviously don't want to store it for a year, and go to check on it and it as gone bad. Anyone know?

When i was around 16, i found my dads stash, which looked VERY old - i mean old, i belive it even had mold on it - me being young and dumb, me and my buddy smoked it, and we got stoned =P

you said you has mason jars? Dont quote me but i think you should stick it in the freezer -

I've always heard if you can keep air out it's good for a long time, might be a little harsher smoke though.

My dad keeps his stash in the freezer, double freezer bagged. His stash has been there for at least a year and it's still as good as dank as the first time I took a hit of it.

Yeah man your herb will last a while. As long as you keep it out of heat and sunlight it should stay good for atleast 6 months. Some buds I've smoked have been years old. Just check on it once a week to check the mold status. As long as its properly dried you shouldn't have an issue with mold.

If you really want to hold onto some weed long term...
Where I grew up I had a friend who grew his own. This was in snow country, so he'd freeze gallon size freezer sacks of bud to smoke over the winter. He was very careful about getting all the air out of the bags before sealing them, so the stuff was always great when he 'thawed out' a sack!
I watched an infommercial on TV recently that showed a shrink wrapping system (for food) that pulled all the air out of a freezer bag and hermetically sealed it. The first thing I thought of was my 'ol buddy up North. The more air you can successfully remove from the bag prior to freezing, the less chance you'll get mold or ice crystals forming on your stash.
If you are serious about long term storage, you may want to keep an eye out on TV for that shrink wrap system infommercial. If it can keep a piece of fish fresh and freezer burn free for a year, imagine how fresh it can keep your buds!!!
*Another tip: If possible, store your buds in a freezer that doesn't get opened very often. Your refrigerator freezer probably gets opened daily like mine. Opening the freezer daily lets in warm air and moisture, which can form ice crystals on and inside your bud bags, which is the last thing you want!

PS: Mason jars in a safe at room temperature is a bad idea. Thats asking for mold/fungus to form in the jars dude.

I have never had any pot for more than a month before it got smoked up.
I did however find a ball of hash that I lost 10 years earlier under a big tv set.
I had to examine it real close to be sure it wasn't animal poop.
I smoked it and it was AWESOME!!

Seal a Meal air tight bag sealers if you like bags.

Canning Jars in a cool, dark and dry place could and would do the job for up to a few years at least.

IMO canning jars are the best route.

u can keep ur shit in a rolled up plastic bag for years, it will keep, but it will turn to dust when you touch it, awesome.. awesome... dust.

i love holding on to super danks for a long time, and it gets super crispy, that is HOW its supposed to be smoked IMO.

This is exactly right. If you keep your weed in a Mason jar or a Seal-A-Meal bag...keep it in a dark, cool area...it'll last years!!
I do the same thing -- I have about 8 Mason jars filled with various kinds & I keep it in my safe. Lasts years!!

Fridge or freezer. Depends on how long your thinkin about keepin it.

If it's for up to a month, fridge should be fine. If it's longer you will want to throw it in the freezer instead.

Oh and always in an airtight jar/other type of sealed thing.

Maybe it has to do with what part of the country you live in. I am in South Florida, and down here the humidity is so high we have to take extra precaution to make sure anything stored long term doen't get mold or fungus.
Also, I guess it has to do with how long the weed has been cured. Sometimes we get stuff in my area that's so fresh it doesn't even feel like it's 100% cured. If it's been dry for a while, I guess mason jars work fine.

I used to keep baggies in my wallet for a couple of weeks and it always stayed good but now I have this airtight plastic jar thing called tight pac and it seems to keep my weed nice and fresh cause even after having an 8th of this dank for a few weeks it still smells and smokes great.

How do you make an 8th last you a few weeks? If i have to try to make that last me two days.
