I've been through a lot of the same with my parents and have found that hard "facts" really can't change a hard "mind". I say be open and honest with them; just get ready to live abroad...
Good luck man. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ya, my mom is a pretty intelligent woman, and I always thought as far as pot was concerned it was a "dont ask dont tell/outa sight outa mind" type deal as long as I didnt smoke in or around the house. When I came home smelling like it with red eyes once, my GOD was she livid. So I would get kicked out because im doing "stupid, ILLEGAL things" no matter the fact she knows the facts about MJ or not. which is SAD to be honest. Last edited by Tuk2 : 02-11-2008 at 09:49 PM. |

Erowid.org and wikipedia. If he's religious you might want to try the bible references to weed. be careful though because some of them are a stretch.

Here's a stupid question, why does he want to test you? Is he worried about the risks to your health or is he worried about the legal risks? If he genuinely thinks you could damage your health then sending him a few reputable links might change his mind. You could even argue that using marijuana (which has never caused a single fatality) discourages you from wanting to experiment with alcohol, tobacco and prescription drugs, all of which are known killers. However if he's worried about the legal risks or he "just doesn't like it" then it won't matter how many links you send him he'll still be opposed to you smoking and he'll still say "it's illegal, you should respect the law". All you can do here is prove marijuana's safety and then focus on the harm caused by the prohibition. The issue really isn't "is marijuana safe", it's "is the prohibition harmful". And this answer is yes, the prohibition causes a lot of harm to society in general and to nonusers, like your dad. People moan about how their taxes are being used to pay for health care for illegal immigrants and to support single mothers who decide to have eight kids, but no one talks about the $10 billion of tax payers' money that's directly spent enforcing the prohibition every year or the $30 billion in lost taxes that the Government could be receiving if it legalized and taxed marijuana sales. Then there's the $113 billion from marijuana sales that's directly diverted to criminal organizations. Supporting the prohibition means supporting the funding of criminal organizations. In addition to these very real costs, every one of us, including your dad, live with the risk of being subjected to SWAT-style raids or home invasions due to mistakenly being thought to be producing or possessing marijuana. People are killed because of the prohibition, while no one, not a single person, has died from using marijuana. It's obvious this prohibition is far more harmful than what it’s prohibiting. You’ve probably noticed that prohibitionists will say "the law's the law and smokers should just abide by it", but that argument's only valid if the law is able to be repealed when society deems it appropriate to do so, and this is simply not the case with the prohibition laws. The ONDCP is mandated to blindly oppose all attempts to legalize marijuana. This protection of the prohibition laws results in our society being governed by laws that cannot ever be repealed, no matter how unified or how urgent the call to do so. How can anyone in society, including your dad, accept being governed by laws that can never be repealed, no matter how harmful their impact is found to be on society? Here's a few links that may help. Good luck man! A collection of clinical studies, papers and reference providing a resource for medical disorders helped by medical marijuana.
