[1-11-2008, 2:45 PM Ruminations from Infinity - Part 4]

"I never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it, and though fast rooted they travel about as far as we do. They go wandering forth in all directions with every wind, going and coming like ourselves, traveling with us around the sun two million miles a day, and through space heaven knows how fast and far!"

~John Muir~

I've been home for some time now but my thoughts on Amsterdam are fresh and vital. The lessons of change and hope haven't been lost on me, nor has the idea that people need to have tangible goals to move toward. Life is too easily taken for granted, as if it's somehow owed to us and that each day will flow into the next without a disturbance. We've been seeing lately with the passing of people we know and those we don't that life isn't a neatly wrapped gift tucked under a Christmas tree or box given away at a birthday party. Life is as careless and unforgiving as a stone and there are no guarantees that I'll even be able to finish typing these thoughts before my hearts stops for the last time. Those are the odds that we face everyday and no amount of distraction will change that miracle or alter that terrible fact.

My trip had elements of disillusion in it but it also had many of realization and so it goes as does life. To travel to a foreign country no more guarantees adventure than kissing a woman will produce love. How one sees the world or is open to it is at least as important as the trip, goal, or destination itself. How one expects to see the world is how the world will appear no matter how wonderful it may actually be. By having my perceptions challenged about the Cannabis Cup I was able to slough off the blinders that had hindered me from embracing "the truth" and thereby own my journey. So even though I've been home for some time now, the impressions that were made are truly lasting ones and I now know that my mind has to be uncluttered with expectations before I take my next steps. Because there are people that can find joy in life without many of the trapping that society finds so important, and if those brave souls can triumph in the face of such cynicism so can we.

To those of you that have been reading this thread faithfully and have been understanding and supportive of my thoughts, I must repeat PLEASE OWN YOUR JOURNEY. It isn't enough to be enamored with an idea because upon further inspection all things fall short under the light. Indeed, light is just light until you choose to open your eyes.

I will keep those words with me for as long as I can, though, I believe that discovering this for my self will be a battle in itself. I am due for some eye-opening reality, and I know that the demons in my life will not cease to torture me until I come to acknowledge them up front and forthright.

I can't say it enough, AK, great thread. Keep on writing, because merely by doing so you are making this world a better, more enlightened place.

I hope this is a bit of foreshadowing.

After reading your entries, I can honestly say if you wrote a book, I would buy and read it. Probably read it again, and again. Your words just flow.. The imagery is crystal clear and the words aren't all "omgwtfbbq" like some people try to use to make themselves seem more intelligent. Thanks again for taking your time with all this.

Dunno if I want to go to India just yet, there are a few other places I want to travel to first. My goal for the time being is to assist the cannabis community, but I'll never say never to adventure.

Foreshadowing, hmmmmmmmmmm.

Thanks a lot for your words bro, I'm always writing maybe I'll try to float something in the literary world in the near future. I'm just so attached to my projects and find them very hard to let go of once they're created.

Till then and beyond...

Stay forever green.

And once I thank you for the kindness of your words. It's so important that we smokers not only see what's possible but know we all have the inner strength to make it happen. The world will only be what we want it to be if we are strong of mind and will.

Ya know?

"Saints are sinners who kept on going."

Keep those dreams going bro, don't just "hope," focus and do.
