Reminiscing

Hello All,
As yet another Saturday evening winds down in the middle of the vast wasteland of conservatism (Indiana) I could not help but reflect upon the "good old days".

Many of the posters here are younger folks and do not know of the early experiences us old dogs had in our youth. I recall for example when finding smoke was really not much of a problem. It was not at all uncommon for myself and friends to smoke a oz. a week, and pay usually around $30 for the oz. Sometimes we could find some exceptional smoke for $45. In those days at least for myself and my circle of friends smoking joints was the method of choice, only occasionally would we smoke from a pipe and even more rarely a bong. A typical bag in those days would have lots of shake, few buds, and usually a fair amount of seeds. Also in those days very few people we knew would actually attempt to grow their own crop. We always took for granted that smoke would be available and because of the penalties none of us wanted to risk being caught growing. I have to admit that as much as I miss the availability I once experienced that the quality back then was not close to what is frequently out there today. Much of the time the smoke did not taste very good, the curing was not done very well. I am sure a lot of it was just commercial Mexican smoke. We always got a pretty good buzz and enjoyed ourselves but it just doesn't compare with what is commonly grown today. It was nice back in the 70's and 80's to go to parties where everyone was cool and nearly everyone had smoke of their own and joints kept being passed around all evening.
The availability between then and now at least where I am is quite different. Today, it is much more difficult to find. I attribute this to the crazed war on drugs which always seems to find sympathetic supporters here in the Midwest, to the fact that more people are growing for personal use only and not selling much if any, and to the incredibly bad growing seasons experienced lately in neighboring states. For example, I recently heard that about 80% of the crop in Tennessee because of the drought has been wiped out. I know of a few people that grow very small amounts fro personal use and only occasionally is there any quantity available. As some of you no doubt are aware here in the Hoosier state very year law enforcement makes great efforts to search out plants growing in the wild using helicopters and such to rid the countryside of this supposed menace to society. If only they would use those resources to do something constructive and allow those of us who enjoy smoking the freedom to do so. I hope that I see that day before I die. I cannot grow indoors for a variety of reasons that I will not go into. I have contemplated guerrilla farming but I really do not have a clue as to what to look for in a secure site that I could access for watering etc.. In addition to this I don't know where I could possibly cure a crop and eliminate the smell enough to keep suspicion down. As a result I am at the mercy of the commercial availability of producers. In this age that is not a good position to be in here in the Midwest.
One more tidbit from the "good old days" for you young folks, when we would get our bags we used to always have to "clean" our dope for seeds, stems. We did this with our albums that opened up. Some of you probably don't know what an album (vinyl) is (or should I say was) but that was a primary purpose of the fold out albums was to clean your dope with.

I have rambled on long enough but before I go I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the originators of this site and to those who keep it going. I know there are many other sites out there but I found this one first and I like it best of all. I have learned a lot here and there seems to be a consistent group of posters that represent us smokers in a positive way. To all of you my thanks for maintaining a site that is positive and provides information all smokers can use even us old folks. "Everyone must get stoned"

Good thread. Im not that old but you made me want to be back in those days.

Ya I live in TN and i gotta tell you man, prices have gone UP so much. I used to be able to get some high grade mids for 20 an 1/8th and now its 30 for an 1/8th of some shitty mids. It sucks down here rite about now. But we just got four straight days of rain, so in about 8 weeks we should have some cheaper prices. Cheers

Things have changed. I did all my teenage debauchery in the 80's.
First sac I ever bought was an eighth of some seedless, stinky........oh man it was good. $25.00
I've noticed some people around here have been waiting 'til time to harvest, to steal others plants. I shouldn't even have to say how wrong that is.
We always smoked j's, too! I always had to roll because none of the girls I ran around with could.

I remember when grass was dirt cheap (72'-76'). "When a dime bag cost a dime" as Willie Nelson likes to say.

You had two choices, $15oz/mexican or $35oz/columbian. NOBODY broke a bag. It was free or damn close to it.

Until Hawian came along or Sense from Jamica.

I don't think the pot is that much better these days. I think it is BS to charge more money for the commercial grower. Greed from coke users spilled into the grass market and it has been downhill ever since.

Long story short. There are more urban indoor hobbie growers supporting a small personal stash than you know. The same guys that used to have 8tracks in their muscle cars.
