What alcohol was and is....will weed follow suite?

I was thinking about it. You know back in the day when there was prohibition, alcohol was just like weed nowadays. It was the "scourge" of the nation. If you did it you were automatically a bad person. Ok, nowadays I hear radio ads like "come on down to _____ restaurant, great family atmosphere! A full selection of drinks!" In the course of like 70 years, alcohol went from being just the worst thing you can do, to being totally socially acceptable. Will weed follow this tradition? Do you think in time there'll be ads "Come on down, a great family atmosphere, and a full selection of herbs!" Weed is a lot different than alcohol, so I'm sure it won't be just like that. But do you know what I'm saying? Will it ever become totally socially acceptable like alcohol is?

the reason alcohol was banned is because the government wasnt taxing it.
once they find a good solid way to tax weed, it will be legal. thats my theory

prohibition of alcohol is nothing like how weed is now. Alcohol was already mainstream by the time it was made illegal and alcohol was not attached to tons of mis-information and a general uneasyness by the public

Alright, then what do you think weed will be like years after it's been legalized/decriminalized?

funily enough it isn't, recently i have been studying prohibition and there was a hell of a lot of propoganda, "if you drink you will get adicted, you will loose all your money and you will start haveing to steal things to live, soon after that you will overdose" is the kind of messege that was often put across, and lots of people went along with it. The main difference was that alchahol started drug wars on the streets between gangs, whereas marijuana doesn't so much so people cant see all the damage that criminalising it does.

Maybe not soon, but I don't know if you should be so PESSIMISTIC.

Who knows, the Iraq War and Ron Paul might be enough to revive the old libertarian wing of the Republican party. They would legalize it and one of their major issues is being anti-war on drugs. Hillary Clinton definitely won't legalize, and nor will most any Democrat. She's just as bad as the neocons in every way. There is no mainstream anti-war party right now.

Governments can find a way to blow up a whole country, but out of ignorance they cant use basic math to tax an herb. That's pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

if you want to think about it like that, what's the government's top priority?? keeping its citizen's safe, right? well what comes next? probably not legalizing marijuana. it will in no way be legalized soon, thats not even close to being a priority for the government. don't be so close-minded..don't get my wrong, i'd love for marijuana to be legal/decriminalized whatever, but you have to think about the whole situation. not just blinded by your stoned thinking..

Yeah there are different priorities, but we should never have to blow up a whole country. It seems that a lot of people think it is so hard to legalize/decriminalize it, but if everyone who doesn't want to face punishment for marijuana would work for it, then that would most certainly advance the time it takes for the reformation of the law. No one knows when it will be legalized, its just a matter of who does what.

They did have a way to tax it. But it was a catch 22 that violated the fifth amendment. You had to prove you were doing something illegal in order to legally pay a tax on it. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet.

Expecting weed to become completely legal is very far fetched.. it will be come decriminalized at most, for a long time.

i couldnt agree more. i also think that by not legalizing it the government is protecting the pharmaceutical companies, because the government knows the possible medicinal uses, and if they were to legalize it those companies would be hurt
