DIY Vape (must read for BT lovers who've quit smoking)

They say that necessity is the mother of invention, and they're right. I quit smoking (tobaco) last spring, but I LOVE BTs, so I had to figure out a way to have them without smokes...

Enter the DIY Vaporiser. Get a small/medium pickle jar (or a mason jar i guess - anything with a lid you can drill through with a 1-1.5" holesaw) and a soldering iron with a fresh tip (solder contains lead) - I use the vinyl tile cutting tip because I never cut vinyl tile and it's wide and flat. Get something to use as a mouthpiece (e.g. a glass tube). Drill a hole for the mouthpiece in the lid (I used some shrink tubing around the mouthpiece as a gasket). Drill also a larger hole into which the tip of the soldering iron will fit. Use some foam as a gasket around the end of the soldering iron's handle. That's it; cut some BTs and toke away. A hot soldering gun pics up the Ts real easy.

Personally, I still miss the taste of cigarette-brewed BTs, nothing tastes the same, but this method gets you just as baked, just as quick, but with a whole lot less cancer.

you should avoid conduction (direct heat) based vaporizers

if cash is an issue and you wanna stick with that soldering iron you have some options

first you'll need to figure out how to stick a metal tube on the end of that soldering iron

you could do the side so it heats the tube seperate from the irons element or over the element

you need little more than a whip ala vaporbros design in glass or metal or bought to take hits from the tube that contains the iron element or it's heat

I tried indirect heat - it wouldn't start streaming. My soldering gun has a low setting which works very well - I woudn't use one of those wand-with-a-cord types as they get way too hot. With this you cook your T for a couple seconds and then release the trigger and it'll keep going until it glows red. The best part is no waiting for it to warm up due to the trigger action. 3 tiny BTs get me baked as all hell, for a slap-happier time I did about 12 with a friend - we were giggling like little girls for 45 minutes and then still stoned for an hour or so after that.... at which point we smoked a J.

This rig isn't good for just plain weed, probably due to the conduction issue as Ars pointed out, as well as the fact that weed doesn't sit well or stick to a hot soldering tip, but it works fucking great for hash. I've been using pressed bubble hash, screened hash and even some good street hash, but the street stuff doesn't work as well - it's the impurities/addatives methinks.

you can rig up one of those wands with a 3 buck rheostat from radioshack for full temp control

add the heat tube and a whip (you can buy these as replacement some places)
