I think it's cool to hear about some of the things the older bud smokers on this forum talk about, since I don't really end up around too many older people who smoke in actual life. For instance how people talk about Acapulco Gold, I highly doubt I've ever smoked it but from the way I hear it was pretty dank and has supposedly stopped appearing around 1988, which at that time I wasn't even born yet =[ lol.

So it's almost like chasing a legendary strain, something you don't really think about when you're getting whatever you can get from other people and don't know the strains most of the time. But seems like all I can do is google Acapulco Gold and hope I find images of the actual original stuff.

Hopefully can get confirmation, but this is what I came across. It does look tasty =D

I know Barneys Farm has Acapulco Gold seeds although it may or may not be pure bred from speculations I've read. What do you guys think, have you had any from back then and also tried Barney's Acapulco Gold, how did they match up if so? If the ones on the market aren't pure I bet Barney has like 50 pure Acapulcos growing and smoking them nonstop though lol

That doesn't look anything like the Acapulco Gold I was getting in the '60's.
It was seeded and sure didn't have any green color to it.

The Thai Stick in that picture looks horrid.
Were you guys use to smoking stems back in the 60's-70's?

Heard that man. I say that on here an people get so butt hurt like they know exactly what they are smoking. Unless you grew it your self it's a roll of the dice what your are smoking. Yea u could probably tell indica or sativa but most of the stuff is hybrid now an that would still be tuff

I really think my friend's grandpa grows this strain... He opened the first headshop in Oregon, has been growing since the 70's or so and still grows this completely golden, very leafy, sweet tasting strain with the weirdest yet strongest stone That I always wonder if its AG

We always had an abundance of "Columbian", it wasn't bad but half the time it stunk of mold. We also had a lot of tai stick, I don't know how much of it was real but we felt special when we had some at a party. Way back in the 70s anything that wasn't bud was called homegrown, the bottom of the barrel, now "homegrown" is the best!
I used to love reading the "Freak Brothers", it was a stoner mag full of dumb cartoons and ugly chicks posing in in ugly bikinis (kinda like old Easy Rider models) Each issue had plans how to make different types of pipes and bongs. My favorite was one that showed how to make a power hitter out of a homemade bagpipe, it was made out of Saran wrap, toilet paper tubes and leather. The good old days.

The Acapulco Gold looks fucking chronic for the time. I would gladly try any of those bud they are classic strains even seeing a picture of them is pretty cool in my opinion.

I didn't know old school thai stick was opiumated. That must have been a couchlock high for sure.:hippie:

Buds traditionally being stronger than shake, manicured buds give you more smokeable product per weight. Once upon a time when you bought an ounce from Mexico or any other point of origin you contemplated if there was a reasonable proportion of buds to leaf/shake,how big were the stems in the bag, and how seedy was the weed.

This was when weed was $10-20 an oz, minimum wage was $1.60hr, and gas about 25-30cents per gallon.

Nostalgia - it ain't what it used to be.

I agree! We had some incredible weed back then, just as good if not better than a lot of what's available today. I quite smoking for 15 years until about a year ago and wasn't that impressed with whats around these days. I haven't seen any really high quality skunk in years, I'm not saying it doesn't exist anymore but it seemed to be everywhere 20+ years ago, stuff that was scary good!

My step dad is in his early 50's and he just gets decent mid grades. I take him some top shelf every time I get a chance. I took him some nice blue dream for the first time and he said it was the best he had ever smoked. Damn I was proud.
