2012 = Universe's Way of Telling Us We're Being Bad

Nothing will happen in 2012. In my opinion besides a widescale nuclear war, Apophis stands the greatest chance of ending the (human) world. But that could hit only in late 2030s 2040 and its chances of hitting the earth are 1 in 12.3 million so we shouldn't be worried for a while

I believe it was recently downgrade from 1 in 45,000 to 1 in 250,000 for the 2029 near-encounter, it is supposed to come closer than some of our long range satellites. i guess it should be visible day or night. the 1 in 12.3 million is for the 2036 near-encounter. however that calculation could be changed after the fly-by in 2029. some gibberish about "gravitational keyhole effect" i guess the gravitational effect of earth could pull it into a collision course

Yeah my physics teacher said it was 1 in 40,000 the other day. Which if you think about it isn't all that low. IF it does beat the odds and is on a collision course for the earth it will be interesting to see how they will attempt to change its course or destroy it

I've heard a couple of different ideas. blowing it up is not only difficult it is impractical, blow it up and you got hundreds of objects on a collision course instead of one. but i heard of heating one side with a laser to use expansion to offset the spin, someone suggested painting one side white (for the same reason). the best idea i heard was submitted by an former astronaut, he suggested putting a vehicle in orbit near it to use the gravity generated by the vehicle to pull it out of its orbital tract. there was some discovery channel show (i think) about this a few years back.

if anyone actually thinks the world is going to end in 2012, you're wrong. The Whole idea is that "The Mayans Say the WORLD'S GONNA END!!" this isn't quiet true, they just said a new "Cycle" will start. There have been 4 new cycles already since people have been on the earth so it really doesn't mean anything.. It is really just fear-mongering please don't fall for it and do something stupid.

EDIT: and to the OP what do you mean the Universe will destroy us because our technology, last time i checked the universe isn't living..

This is based off of the lack of rationalization and a culture of superstition/religion/spiritualism/mysticism, not a capitalist conspiricy. To say it is, is complete horse shit.

i don't know. i have noticed a correlation between mass fear and mass money. seems like if you make people really afraid, then show them that their fear was all just a bunch of silliness, the next thing you know they are spending money like mad. kinda like a survivor guilt appeasement thing. for a huge number of people spending money has a soothing effect.

Only people who buy into dogma buy into these delusional 'end of days' beliefs.

Now, sure there are people who feed on the intellectual depravity of many Americans, but to say that it is a collective force of a 'Capitalist Agenda' is very superstitious and naive.
